That guy deserves everything he’s going to get for this.
It’s hard to form an opinion with so little information.
Based on this info, I don’t blame him at all. If he was promised money to play, he should get the money. His only recourse is to do exactly what he did.
Welcome to the new world of college football I guess.
No pay no play. Not sure I would get the shit beat out of me if they weren’t going to pay him what they promised.
I don’t blame him if the situation is as he stated. How many of us would keep working for an employer who reneged on the compensation? I really like my job, and I’d tell my employer to eat shit and walk out the door if they stopped paying me.
CFB used to be a scholarship for play and then in many cases some other benefits quietly delivered under the table.
Now the benefits are in the open and while the scholarship matters to many there are those players who are completely looking it as a business relationship. Apparently in this case, per the player anyways, he went to UNLV due to the NIL commitment made to him, the school/collective has not honored it so he is withdrawing his services.
That, this, is the new CFB we are entering into.
We don’t know all the details but if indeed the university didn’t honor their financial commitment to him he has every right to walk away. It’s as simple as that really.
Too bad because UNLV was becoming quite the story.
So a prostitute is told that if they provide services that they will get paid…… and because there was no money she stops the blow job and waks out…. This is what I see
Individuals selling themselves to the highest bidder for thier services ….
Sad from all perspective….
All for the love of money …
How about stop paying kids. If they want to make money earn it. Zero reasons for a kid to make hundred of thousands to commit and then im not playing. Hey coach if you give me 250k ill commit right now.
There’s no contract? It’s a business more than it’s a sport honestly. Can’t blame these kids for wanting their piece of the pie. Billions upon billions of dollars being throw around.
Sure that is one way to look at it but not sure I agree.
You have an individual who has multiple businesses(universities) desiring his services to help generate more revenue with his athletic ability. They all make offers and the individual picks the one he thinks gives him the best opportunity to prepare him for his future career. Whether that is in the NFL or in a specific field.
The prostitute analogy doesn’t fit what is actually taking place imo.
That horse is out of the barn and it isn’t going back in. Now, they need to decide how they are going structure the NIL to somewhat even the field. Not that it ever will be.
Free to disagree brother!
We can try to justify it and for me you can’t
Big business has been doing it wrong and now the kids are too …. You simply can’t justify one wrong with another ….
Now everyone is doing it wrong and trying say it ok - from a business end….
Inst that what the degree is supported to be for?
Everyone want to get paid now; love for money in the most selfish ways…. At least for me
And I really had to use prostitute vs hooker for obvious reasons!
These kids generate absurd amounts of revenue for the universities especially in college football and fans are buying merchandise off their name which they previously got no cut from.
It might suck for the traditionalist fans of the game but this has been a long time coming. It all started with The Fab Five back in the early 90s when Michigan was leeching off of their brand names making bank and they didn’t see a dime, legally, from it. It’s a business unfortunately and the athletes deserve to get paid for their services and the gobs of money that they and they alone generate for these schools.
There needs to be cap for in coming kids and transfer players. Plus teams like osu can just by who they want and leave little teams in the dust. Im only using osu as example. I know others pay a ton as well.
I dont mind kids getting paid for merchandise, but you think aiden chiles deserves a mil this year?
If you’re talking about particular athletes being overpaid then that’s another story but this is more about the idea of athletes getting paid period not specific individuals being overpaid/underpaid. At least that’s what I thought you were arguing, that they shouldn’t get paid at all.
No. They shouldn’t get paid just to commit. Earn it is all im.saying. like if edwards sells 1 million jerseys and thier 150 each split the cost.
Rumor is that this was in large part what was behind the massive Colorado exedous this off-season. A lot of broken promises.
I do not feel like it is that simple.
Plainly said, you signed on to your job (and playing college football at the D1 level is a full time job) and one of the benefits of your job was getting paid 100K.
The 1st-2nd-3rd pay days come and you do not get a check. How many pay days would it take for you to leave a place that was not paying you?
Everything changes. Change is always 50/50 good and bad. This is one of the down sides of today’s college football. But you should really think of it as the minor leagues like it has been for 50 years.
