Rakestraw bounces back
After a slight lull in productivity over the recent stretch of practices, cornerback Ennis Rakestraw appeared to bounce back for a strong day on Tuesday. He was matched up with Jameson Williams three separate times in one-on-one drills, and Rakestraw had a good showing.
On the first rep, Rakestraw was in phase from the snap against Williams and forced an overthrow. He was also in good coverage on a throw in the end zone to force an incompletion. The third rep went to Williams, who brought in a slant route that Rakestraw initially deflected.
Well thats totally inaccurate.
Unless they’re gonna piss away a million dollars by cutting McCreary, it’ll be Whiteside, who has zero guarantees
The day Dan Campbell keeps one player over another, because of how their contract reads, is the day Dan Campbell is no longer Dan Campbell.
I think they keep all 7, and it’s Abney who’s inactive on game days.

Reed, Rock, Rakestraw, Abney are locks.
McCreary NB job is his to lose…and if he does it’s to Abney.
Dorsey is the special teams ace.
I am also taking the position that if they don’t keep 7, Whiteside is the odd man out. I guess I would ask who is getting cut if we only keep 6? The loser of Abney/McCreary? Abney isn’t getting cut…and if he can’t clearly take that job away from McCreary, he isn’t getting cut either.
Very possible, but IMO doubtful. I see Abney on the PS. I think he has the best chance to clear waivers. I don’t see many teams picking him up and forced to put him on their 53.
No way Abney gets cut. He getting picked up by 28 teams if he did. McCreary goes before Abney and I just can’t see that happening. Whiteside is #7…I hope we keep 7 fwiw.
It’s actually insane that I have this same exact conversation with people when trying to explain how stupid the average person is. Like almost word for word.

Nick Whiteside ain’t scared
In my opinion, Nick Whiteside’s ascent has been the story of training camp. In a Lions cornerback room desperate for some optimism, Whiteside climbing from the bottom of the depth chart to the first-team reps has been an injection of hope.
Campbell has already commented about how Whiteside is making daily plays and is too hard to ignore right now. But what I found interesting about his comments on Tuesday was how it’s been Whiteside’s attitude that has been particularly impressive.
“Here’s what I love about Ironsides is it is not too big for him,” Campbell said. “He doesn’t care who’s across from him, he will compete and he’s going to try to use his craft. And he doesn’t go in a shell and he’s defeated before the play is even snapped.
Bc people are emotional creatures and cling to their feelings over what is obvious 
I’m not saying I’m absolutely right, but the odds are very much in my favor based on several facts, including history
Zero chance Abney clears waivers, which Whiteside has done literally every season he’s been in camp and cut
Edit - Furthermore, he played all of 51 snaps last season, 40 of which came in one game, and routinely was up and down from the PS where anyone could have claimed him. But some people are adamant that he’s not going to get cut again bc of some preseason fluff pieces? I just don’t get it… DC said some complimentary things? Okay, do you expect him to come out and shit talk his players?
I mean that’s fine and I love it. Then we keep 7 or shockingly cut McCreary. Whoever gets cut isn’t making it through to the PS if it’s Abney or McCreary.
Last I read somewhere, I don’t remember where, Izien was the front runner to be the starting NB.

ZERO chance Abney doesn’t make the team. He’s their rookie and considered a steal in the 5th round. I highly doubt Raksestraw gets cut either even if he is inconsistent. I would think they’ll give their 2nd round pick a chance now that he’s healthy.
One day it’s “Rakestraw could be cut!” Next day “Rakestraw bounces back!” If training camp is meant to create competition, challenge players, etc then this is a good thing.
What hurts is Arnold and Rakestraw were supposed to be our 1 and 2. Now we’re hoping he makes the team.
The sad truth is we don’t really know because this looks like a terrible 2ndary. We’re back to when Sutton was the best we had until other players prove they can be good players. Last I saw Reed sucked, and if we’re being honest he was never a CB1. He was a very good CB2. So this could be tough.
You had me until the last paragraph… Reed didn’t look good coming back from injury, but he looked every bit of a #1 CB before he got hurt. I think the secondary is average at worst, they’ve done a nice job filling it out all things considered with the injuries to the safety position and Arnold’s idiocy
Holmes was so the man with the draft, but seems to be heading towards more bust lately
The 2024 draft was meh, one starter and one ST ace… But he’s killed literally every other draft… 3 starters in 2025 and 2026 looks just as good… Haters gonna hate
I mean if hes building through the draft cant miss a year if drafting.
