Red Wings 2nd Half Thread

Mickey Redmond broke his tv remote this season watching the red wings. Seems appropriate

The Wings couldn’t have had a better final game to put a bow on this season.

No kidding how sadly appropriate. I’m really just listening for Ken and Mickey. I wonder if Todd McClellan throws the team under the bus like the blue jackets coach did

Among the many sad things about this game is I think Florida is playing half of their backups/callups. They said none of their defensemen tonight were on the Stanley cup team last year. And they’re still kicking our ass.

At least we kept it close tonight.

Wow. Just saw the list 8-1.

Fitting end. Listless

Team stinks from top to bottom. Clean house from top to bottom. Keep Cat, Raymond, Seider, and the kids just to see what we have. Everyone else can kick rocks.

Should’ve shoved them under the bus, Todd!

Team is soft and they don’t give a shit. One of the most telling clips was after a heart-breaking loss down the stretch and JT Compher’s response was “It is what it is.”

DO SOMETHING STEVE!

25-30M IN CAP SPACE for next year!

Call it $20m after you sign a few guys to the bottom of the roster to fill out the 23 and RFA arbitration.

0 EXCUSES!

I remember listening to Bruce Martyn and when he retired, at the time I remember thinking he was kind of like the red wings Ernie Harwell. Paul Woods is the same. Crazy to think it’s been 30 years since Bruce Martyn retired - I remember it was maybe the season or two before the wings won in 97, and they let him come back and call some of the 3rd period of that awesome game 4 against Philadelphia.

Gonna miss hearing Paul Woods for sure. Detroit has a long history of really great broadcasters.

for the record Bruce Martyn is still alive, going strong at 96!

What exactly was the reasoning behind holding that much cap space this past season and not using it to try and improve the team?

I’ve been saying 2027 is the year for three years, time to find out if true or not.

Hopefully one of those other goalies is ready. Talbot with an all time ending to the season really hurt Gibson and the Wings

Maybe gearing up for making moves for the upcoming season? I don’t know, I’m like the least qualified person to talk cap space. I think they had what, roughly $10-$11 million of usable if wanted for this season?

Just because you have money available doesn’t mean it’s going to turn into a good player. Good players don’t want to be here. We get Copps and Comphers. To be quite honest, I’d rather not be locked into more shitty contracts for bad players. I’d rather just sit on the money for a year or two for the right guy to come along than be stuck with another a 5-6 year Copp/Compher

Only free agents the wings have gotten are players that wanted to be here or grossly overpaid. Pathetic.

Since the mid 80s the wings have the 10th longest conference semi final drought! Not just active. Like TOTAL! And the tied for 2nd longest playoff appearance drought.

I dont care what people say. There’s zero excuses for that. ESPECIALLY the sorry bleep excuse of Holland.

Not when 22 other teams have figured out how to turn it around faster.

When did Yzerman take over?

I mean I think that’s a reasonable question, if we’re also talking longest active drought. I think it would be fair to recognize when he started

April 2019 - so 7 years

1st pick was Seider

Previous 2 years by Holland were Zadina and Raz as their 1st pick. Not exactly difference makers. It has been suggested that these were the worst first round picks (when picking in the top 10) since Joe Murphy.
