Red Wings 2nd Half Thread

Correct me if I’m wrong, and I’ll preface this by saying the nhl has the dumbest draft ever and I hate it.

But years 2017-2023 we picked in the top 10, highest was 4. Weren’t these lottery picks where we had a “chance” to move up higher but usually dropped down?

We have had terrible lottery “luck” which isn’t luck, it’s 100% manipulated by the league which is just another reason to not take the league seriously

Lottery is soooo stupid, the NFL draft is so much better.

Yeah you’re correct. Actually in the history of the lottery system, the Red Wings have the worst luck of ALL time. Statistically no one has gotten more screwed and moved down more spots overall than them since they’ve had the system in place. To the point that it’s pretty much statistically impossible how they’ve been slated year after year

Ok right on, and that statistical improbability is just further evidence of how the league manipulates things to be how they want. It’s essentially the Patrick Ewing to the Knicks draft every year.

I remember losing out on Lafreniere, and where did he go? New York. Where did they send celebrini? To a struggling west coast team they need to keep expanding the game in the west coast media market. It’s just all so obvious. Detroit is not a major media market in all the sports especially in the modern era and with so much money being thrown around, cash talks and the leagues get who they want to be competitive. I feel like there is still a stigma around Detroit nationally which is truly sad.

I don’t really take any of the leagues seriously anymore with the nhl just being a really poor microcosm of the rest. To me it is purely entertainment now, and once I get over this feeling of injustice or whatever it is I have that still manages to get me upset for some reason, I’ll just not care and be an objective observer. It’s not games, it’s just shows and events.

Lol that was a Sunday morning rant for you!

All that bullshit aside, have a darn fine day and enjoy it!

You know who won the most lotteries and also the biggest one?

Edmonton

Western Canada. Only worse destination for the league is arguably Winnipeg.

So they could develop them and send them to better places, like LA, just like Gretzky!

In all honesty that is true, they have won a lot of lotteries. Guess they gotta keep some Canadian teams competitive haha.

I am pulling for Montreal, they have done a good job of building a team pretty quickly.

If they were giving McDavid to Canada for sure it would have been the Leafs. He’s from the GTA. The look on his face when the Oilers won the lottery was one of severe constipation.

I dunno about Toronto, they are kind of like the cowboys in that they don’t need any support or boost, they are going to sell out and make money regardless. Whereas I feel like in Edmonton, it’s kind of like college football down south in that even if there’s not a pro team it’s still the number one sport and people will go see all the college/high school/amateur games and be perfectly happy. So essentially if they oilers ever left it wouldn’t matter as much maybe. Kinda like Oklahoma. But I could be wrong, I’ve never been to Edmonton nor to Oklahoma!

Although the more I think of it now, that kind of makes sense Edmonton would keep winning the lotto, they are essentially the maple leafs of the west coast. So they keep trying to create the narrative of having the best player in the world always on Edmonton, and they finally accomplished it with McDavid. Oilers sell out and print tons of money too, so the nhl has their Canada east and Canada west teams, who they prop up.

It’s all a conspiracy I’m telling you!!! :winking_face_with_tongue:

Vancouver, hockey history aside, would be the crown jewel of western Canada. But they’re only known for riots

Gretzky loves Canada as long as he doesn’t have to live there.

Banff is really nice if you’re into mountain hiking. I’m not really a big city person.

Canmore is a few miles from Banff but far less tourists although that is changing. Olympic sport facilities are there just outside the town. FYI . Terrific spot

Poor slot defense gives up two in a couple minutes

My roommate who started watching the Flyers a month ago gets to see his team in the playoffs. Meanwhile the Red Wings are completely ■■■■■■■ incompetent.

January 1st projected end of season points.
94 points projected Cut off
Det 102 (+8)out 92 (-6)
OTT 89 (-5) in 97 (0)
BOS 88 (-6) in 98 (+1)

They only needed 46 points in 42 games. 1.09 PPG. Below average. Thats all they needed.

NOPE! 14 point swing in the wrong direction.
