Red Wings Chat: 10/20 - 10/26

Prolly had rust to start the season, and he can be streaky at times

but when hes on, hes a fantastic goalie.

How did the Wings get Gibson?

A trade you say??? :open_mouth::open_mouth::eyes::eyes:

Huh….. I thought Detroit teams didn’t make trades. :thinking::thinking::thinking:

There is this…

And this…

Well to be honest. Ducks wanted Gibson gone, and wings needed a goaltender.

Wings have turned things as around starting on the road trip. Gibson has found his game. Yzerman and McLelland has them playing as a team. They also have a solid group of young players on the team and the best minor league team by record. All this and they haven’t given up much in draft choices. A far cry from when Holland left as GM. People wanted to blame Yzerman for the state of the team. Can we now come out to give him credit.

Its a long season. Injuries could happen but things are certainly on the upswing.

Not sure why you would put Langdon in that category. He hasn’t made any splash moves because he hasn’t needed to. His team is at the top of the East and the second best record overall. This isn’t Madden! :man_shrugging:

Yeah I shouldn’t have included Langdon. I was just upset.

I’ve never jumped in on the bandwagon of some of the fans here and people like Valenti and Rico with criticisms of trades or lack there of because you never know what the asking price is. I do know this, the asking price is almost never the same from team to team. Teams looking to trade star players will definitely try to get more in return out of certain teams and sometime end up settling for less from another team than what there demand was from other teams. I see that back when the Ted Wings were trying to wheel and deal back during their run on the late 90s. Teams wouldn’t even talk to the Wings unless Martin Lapointe or Slava Kozlov were apart of the conversation. I remember that specifically with Mark Recchi….when the Avs landed Theo Fleury and the Wings tried to answer that trade by inquiring about Recchi. Montreal wanted Lapointe so Recchi ended up going to the Flyers, where he began his career!

Congratulations to Kane getting his 500th goal

The redwings are still playing good hockey!!

Fun to watch.

Huge key has been the Gibson turn around

I will say, it’s probably easier to goaltend when you have Mo and Edvinsson on the ice 22-25 minutes a game. Last time I looked at the advanced analytics, they were the 6th best defensive pairing in hockey. Gibson has been playing well, of course, but having defense in front of you that isn’t dog water for at least 1/3 of the game is very beneficial.

Also, can we talk about the ■■■■■■■ Griffins? holy moly

Cossa has been lights out this season. Normally I’d be pounding the table for a call up. But Gibby is doing fine.

Lots of young talent.

By the way

The Red Wings shutout Montreal in their rink 4-0 to go into 1st place again. Yes, teams just behind them have games in hand but that was a stellar performance against a solid team.

Wings and Pistons are making people believe

Wings played one of their most complete games last night. Made the Habs look like a mite team.

Is the Yzerplan working? Sure seems like it is

We’ll see how this ends up finishing, but if positive a great lesson for many regarding patience

I went to a Red Wing playoff game in 2009 i believe and they were playing in Chicago, it was the only game the Wings lost in the series so i will not curse the wings by going to another playoff game

i’m pretty slow to get on board with hockey. Does this team have staying power? Last year we just fizzled out down the stretch, so I’ve been reluctant to get on board this year.

Barring injuries the answer is Yes.

Since early December Gibson has been solid in net and it resulted in a good record. They rarely lose 2 in a row. Gibson Larkin and Seider can’t be out for extended periods. Others are playing well in a team concept but those 3 are the main engines.

They aren’t a dominant team like Colorado so nothing is guaranteed. My concern is can they keep it together after a prolonged Olympic break. Some teams benefit from breaks but others don’t and that will be up to the coach IMO.

Overall, things are looking good.

The added bonus is that they have a terrific minor league team in Grand Rapids. They set a record for winning percentage so far. That means other good players will be available in the next year or two.
