I mean true, but when you suck like the red wings sucked a few years ago, you have to overpay for mediocre players. Detroit has nothing but history. Not a good team, not great weather, not a state without income tax, etc. There was nothing to draw people here unless they were overpaid or wanted to come back to the Michigan area because they were from here. Hell, the only reason we were able to get Kane is because he wanted to play with his boy Cat again.

At least the Wings are on the cusp of the playoffs now. If they can land a Top 6 winger and a Top 4 D this offseason, I think theyā€™ll be playoff bound. That could be enough to lure some guys to Detroit now that there is an actual shot at the playoffs.

He has stayed constant on that approach regarding FA. He has always been saying FA this year was going to be a stretch because of what you mentioned above.

Also side note: Danielson I believe after watching him some last year is ready for the big leagues

Provides depth, leadership, and still put up 36 points (16g, 20a) last year. For 1 year and $1m? It could be worse.

Heading into year 7, youā€™d think there would be some more urgency. Iā€™m not invested enough as a hockey fan, but my father was so I follow.

If they donā€™t make the playoffs this year, Iā€™d be shocked if people werenā€™t FINALLY calling for his job.
