But not urgently. Heās nowhere near Matt Millen levels of hate and heās done about as much. At least Quinn made the playoffs once in his five years. And I donāt even really give him any credit for that.

What would you like him to do? You canāt force FAs to sign here. The ones that he has signed for heās had to overpay for because people donāt want to be here and people hate that too. You can make trades, but it takes two to tango, well, actually 3, because the player youāre trading for is either going to want to sign or not sign here long term. No point in giving up assets for a guy who wonāt be here.
Until this last season, the Wings had improved every season and have built up one of the better farm systems in the league. I know itās been a while, but I donāt think people understand how bad of a state the Wings were in when Steve came back.

I love Yzerman. I consider him one of the few Detroit sports figures that I was fortunate to watch his entire career.
As a GM though? Enough is enough. Itās still early in the off-season but if we donāt improve this team significantly, Iām all about getting rid of him.
Ideally yes, but unless someone is willing to take on contracts, itās pretty unlikely weāre going to see any of Chiarot, Holl, or Gus moved. And other than possibly ASP or maybe Wallinder/Buium, itās not like we have guys knocking down the door to come up next season.
Maybe offer longer than two years to big names. āTermā is like a naughty word for Steve that he isnāt allowed to say and if he does he has to put a dollar in the swear jar.

Yes, because Iām sure ātermā is the only reason FAs donāt want to sign here. Itās almost like there are 31 other teams that also have money and better situations to offer FAs. Itās no different than fans being upset when Brad doesnāt make a move. We have no idea what conversations were had. Clearly he will give term to guys like Cat, Raymond, Seider, etc.
IMO, heās building very similarly to the Lions, Tigers, and Pistons. It just takes time in hockey. The Tigers sucked for a long time too, and look at them now.

And therein lies the problem. No other fanbase would allow a great all-time player to be a GM with these results. I donāt care if it was Barry being Lions GM. After five years of nothing, goodbye. Thanks for the memories but you gotta go.
Every other NHL franchise has turned their team around much faster.
7!!! YEARS! Since steve took over. 11 years from a REAL team. It doesnt take THAT long to make a DECENT team.

There is no other team that has started where the Wings were, aside from shitty expansion teams back in the day. The Wings had ZERO talent in the farm system, basically only Larkin in the NHL. FFS, Athanasiou was the second leading scorer on the team when Steve took over. Bad contracts - LOL JUSTIN ABDELKADER. FRANS NIELSEN. Ken Holland absolutely GUTTED this team from top to bottom to keep the playoff run alive and the second he saw it was over, he bolted.
There is no other team that has started from absolutely nothing and been a contender in 7 years. Stop it. The Wings had Larkin and a bunch of literal scraps in the entire organization 2019 when Steve came back.
Has Steve been perfect? Nope. Definitely made some mistakes along the way. But he hits on his 1st rounders, has made the team fun to watch most nights, have improved every year until this last season, and on the cusp of the playoffs 2 years in a row, and built an organization that had almost no talent from top to bottom to being competitive in the NHL and noted as one of the better farm systems in the league in the levels below.
So letās stop pretending like Yzerman has done āNOTHINGā in 7 years. Itās day 1 of free agency and there is still roughly $15m to work with. Adding a Top 6 forward and Top 4 defenseman is still a possibility. Iām not sure why thereās all this crying 3 hours into FA. The trade for DeBrincat didnāt happen until like a week and a half into the FA period.

We need a top 2 def and a top 4 top 6 foward. I dont see none of that happening. Thank gosh we got a 31 year old goalie. Well im taken the dog swimming. Hope to hear something good

They have ~10-15 prospects teams would WANT. They have $15m in space this year and $50m next year. All their draft picks.
They have made how many trades in the past 7 years again? Trades that actually help the wings?
