Red wings offseason

Jeff Petry is gone!!!

happy season 1 episode 3 GIF by National Geographic Channel

Still have Holl, Compher, Copp

I’ve already stated that most of the prospects are probably not knocking on the door to come up this season. They’re all still really young with little AHL experience. ASP has played 2 games in North America! JvR signing a 1year deal isn’t holding ANYONE back. JBD signing a 1yr/875k deal isn’t holding anyone back. Why are we talking about this?

You’re just so heated that you apparently can’t comprehend what I’m saying or just refuse to listen. It’s like talking to a brick wall. You can’t force teams to trade with you. You can’t force FAs to sign with you. You have no idea what happened with Walman, but based on how Steve has responded almost every time he’s been brought up, I assume he was moved for good reason.

Yes, offer all these picks and assets for a player in a trade for what? To get knocked out in the first round. Do you really think the Wings are one player away from being a Stanley Cup contender? No. So why mortgage the future right now? Wait until the window is open and then make your move that costs prospects. It doesn’t make sense to make a major move right now. It’d be like the Tigers making a big move 4 years ago. Why? They’re still not close. Now it would make sense for the Tigers to make a move and eventually it will make sense for the Wings to make a big move.

Oh, and learn how to spell Jonatan Berggren.

To a team that consistently wins Stanley Cups. Huh.

Steve has been hitting on draft picks left and right, don’t tell this forum though. We got people in here comparing him to Matt Millen.

It’s only a matter of when/not if for him getting this organization to officially turn the corner

I actually wouldn’t have minded Petry back, Holl is who they badly need to upgrade

Has he? Raymond and Sieder are good. Are either of them top 20 in the NHL? Nope.

Kasper and Edvison look good. Still has to prove alot.

And Johanson and soderlbloom are depth players.

Wallender hasnt been called up ever.
Cross and Niedernbacher are gone
Buium has never been up.
James and Buchlechof still havent even SIGNED.
Cosa got benched in the AHL.

So how can we tell if steve has drafted well. If he only has 2 top liners 2 mid 6 and 2 bottom of the roster players IN 7 YEARS.

So what all those guys getting called up this year? No. Cool. So then it will be ANOTHER transition year next year. Because they wont hit the ice running.

So what your saying is. Were just gonna wait till 2030 when all the kids are finally PROVEN NHL talent worthy of a deep playoff run? Cool.

Btw heres the roster for 2026/2027. With well over $40m in cap space

We were one HC for a full season away from being a playoff team last season.

We now have that HC for a full season, plus a goalie upgrade.

Just need to add a top 6 forward or top 4 dman via trade and next thing you know we’ll have you jumping on the bandwagon about how good his drafting has been when the Wings make the playoffs year after year

I watch the wings when i can suck or good. Wings had a great start with the new coach but again had a bad few weeks.

Goalie wasnt the issue.

Wings were above average Save%

They STILL even in that winning streak

Bottom 5 ALL TIME in PK%
BOttom 10 in the NHL in time in OFF zone.

The Larkin disappearing act after 4Nations killed this team during that stretch

Raymond wasn’t great either

I feel like people just forget how bad Dave destroyed the tigers to get one for Mr I and that Kenny did the exact same thing with the wings. Also they forget that baseball and hockey are not football and basketball where young kids can come in and make a huge difference. Yes, it happens but rarely in hockey or baseball. The same people would be bitching and moaning in 2yrs that we have no prospects if we made a trade or 2 and only made it to the first or second round of the playoffs. Baseball can be bought, but that’s not how hockey works and people seem to be lost on that point. Great write ups Davicus!

Still, issue or not goaltending being upgraded still counts as an upgrade.

The PK was terrible, which is why they badly need to add another top 4 Dman. P Suter actually would have been nice to have last year as well just because of what he can do on the PK

Everyone is just having typical reactionary responses. It happens in every sport. People are tired of the Wings losing and I get it. But we are probably literally 2-3 years from having an actual competitive core and the assets to really make an all-in move that will allow the Wings to be good for a long time. It’s too early to be throwing away assets for a ā€œwin nowā€ mentality, imo. They’re not a player or two away. Another 2-3 years when guys like Copp/Compher are gone and replaced with Danielson, ASP/Wallinder, Buchelnikov, NBM, Plante, Cossa/Augustine are able to join the roster and the Yzerman core makes a majority of the NHL team up and we’re still sitting on plenty of prospects and picks - that’s when you start going into ā€˜win mode’ now. Not when you’re still on the playoff bubble every year. There’s no point in giving up prospects/talent at this point to add a guy to get knocked out in the first round. The Wings get closer and better every year. If Larkin ever wins anything here, it’ll be like it was with Steve - after getting to the back half of his career. It took Yzerman 13 years to win his first as a player and that is going from the Dead Wings to the Era where they bought everything.

Bobrovsky didn’t play in the Stanley Cup Finals until he was 34yo…
and is now 36 years old after his 3rd straight Cup Final.

Quite a few Cups were won in the past 20 years by teams that relied on at least 1 goalie over age 30…. including the last time the Wings won it when Osgood and Hasek were both 35+.

Quite a few goalies play at a high level well into their 30’s.

You think wings can complete for the SC. Man ill have what your drinking

Reading this thread - a few things.
Yzerman is starting year 7 as GM. The cupboard was bare, picks had been traded and zero prospects in the minors.
Detroit now has a top 4 prospects group, a team that is borderline playoffs, a few key long term signed players and still currently a bunch of cap space.
A trade is probably the best choice to get a quality player or two but they have some draft capital and some minor league depth to trade should the right player come along.
Not easy to get what you really want.

Side note: the leafs just signed two players, Boyd and Mermis at the league minimum. I’m sure now that losing Marner is now forgotten after those pickups.

What is really most surprising to me this year is how many high priced players resigned with their current team. Thought there would be more movement.

How do you jump to THAT conclusion???

I didn’t make any comment about the Wings winning Cups….

.

I provided that EXAMPLE for goalies….

the players that did succeed at age 31+……

to point out that it is NOT a problem that the team acquired a 31yo goalie… because he could a valuable contributor for at least 3-5 years.

Also……

wait for it……….
