Yeah, getting out from Tarasenko without giving up a pick to ship him out and without retention is a big win. Liked the signing last summer but he just didnât click here.

I wouldnât be surprised to see the Wings make a move like going after Alexander Alexeyev if the Caps donât tender him (and it doesnât look like they will after acquiring Chisolm). Hasnât really turned out quite like he was supposed to in the NHL and Washington couldnât give him the playing time. But heâs a big (6â4", 230lb) LHD who is a former first round pick (2018). Not a huge needle mover but could see Steve taking him on as a reclamation project like Fabbri was.
Hell, he canât be as bad as Holl.

Personally donât see Marner coming to Wings. Sounds like he and Vegas are already in bed together (still donât know where theyâre gonna get the money, but whatever). Wouldnât mind seeing Ehlers to the Wings on a reasonable term deal. But FA is so hard to predict.
But with all that cap space now, I would expect the Wings to make at least a medium-sized splash or two, through FA or trade.

I think it helps when they are able to pay way below market value.
A. The lack of taxes the players have to pay allows them to sign much cheaper and still âmakeâ the same amount
B. Homegrown guy like Ekblad who probably really likes being there and willing to take less than on top of the tax calculation savings
