I think an offensive guy to help Maye would be greatly appealing though. I mean do they want to bring in the guy to coach a young QB who ruined the confidence of the last young QB he coached?
The problem with that is it likely means they have to go with someone who doesn’t have any history with NE. Not a lot of offensive options coming from their ranks. Kingsbury’s about it. Nick Caley maybe?
My first and only interview question for a HC candidate would be why is this game called “football” and what else would you call it if you couldn’t call it that?
Why i believe vrabel has a slight edge over Flores, but i think those two are on the shortlist instantly
If not, Hard to say where Flores goes, cause i think alot of things needs to be right for him to have a good culture, and if one thing isnt to his liking, its gonna cause issues and fast
I had him at #2 in a tier with Caleb and way above Daniels. Thought the Commanders would rue the day they passed on him. Doesn’t look like it so far, but still TBD.
Personally I suspect Flores will be in Minnesota for a while. And I’m OK with that, we’ve got him more or less figured out. He’s a bit like Schwartz in that the more you see of him, the worse he gets. Still a really good DC overall and a big advantage for them most weeks, just not someone who will keep me up at night.
And I thought all the complaints about his unnecessary off-platform throws and inconsistent footwork were grossly overstated. He was trying to make sushi out of catfish. Everyone had the same complaints about Allen and Mahomes. Sometimes elite guys try to do to much in college when they’re carrying a team.
It’s going to get worse and uglier before it gets better. Here is an article talking about a serious disconnect going with Ryan Poles and the ownership.
Of the 4 candidates reportedly on the Bear list, I don’t think 3 would take the job with the current structure.
If the Head coach has to report to GM Poles, who reports to President Warren, who reports to the Owner, Ben, Vrabel and Flores are out.
There is already rumblings that Poles doesn’t like the structure and that won’t encourage Ben who has been in an ideal Head Coach GM organization with the Lions. President Rod Wood has very little, if any input in on field football matters. He runs the business operations and stays out of everyone’s way.
Vrabel didn’t like not having control of personnel in Tennessee. Having two exec’s messing in football operations above him would be a nightmare.
Flores didn’t want Tua and I think he would want to have major input on personnel.
Brady would jump at the opportunity on the Bears terms.
