Report: Joey Porter Jr. is unlikely to play today, trade is possible

You are right, I really don’t get why the media keeps pushing that guys will be back after achilles injuries, and that “It doesn’t mean what it used to” By what measure? Sure, QBs can come back from it, when they don’t need to run. But DBs? It is still a complete death sentence. The only guy I can come up with that was still a high level performer was Deangelo Hall. And he was one of the most elite athletes in the NFL prior.

Okudah wasnt the best, but he flashed promise (he was a FRP for a reason) but yeah that achilles killed any chance of an NFL career. Walker was very solid (like at one point one of our best players) and the achilles rupture killed his nfl career.

basically, im saying that injury is a death sentence for certain positions, and for a DB, where athleticism and speed is so important, its a massive injury

Tracy Walker wasn’t even good to begin with.

Now thats a straight up lie, he was actually Good in 2021 and in 2022 before the injury

what are we on about here lol

Wasnt he a top 10 Safety in 2021 by most metrics (He led the team in tackles in 2021, and he was top 10 in PFF if i remember aswell, thats with Will harris has his Safety Partner)

Ok sorry, he was a serviceable starter…for the shortest of times.

He was a legit player, but of course… an achilles Tear happened, and he was never the same.

thats the entire point im making, those injuries are devastating for DB’s, and we have enough evidence to see that Branch might not be the same player ever again.

It looks to me he was a promising rookie, followed that up with a great sophmore season…then pretty much sucked. 65.1 pff isn’t bad by any means, but it’s also just ok.

1.25 seasons of being really good…it’s whatever, your point is valid. I’m just going to be on the optimistic side of one my favorite Lions. The safety position might be my favorite, and we had the hand crafted, perfect duo makeup. Forgive me for being hopeful at least one can come back and stick around. Even at 75% of what he was. He’s not getting paid for what he previously did. So what’s wrong with re-signing him if he’s an average S with elite instincts and leadership? People loved AA, and what he brought to the table definitely wasn’t amazing.

I think its fair to say that hew a fan fav and I would like to re-sign him at an affordable price but hes such an unknown rn, and given the Kerby situation, hard to shell out an extension after that injury.

He might get him back at a greatly reduced price, but BB knows this is the big contract. I just dont know if a middle ground will be reached in this situation

I’m here for the meltdown when it’s the Bears that trade for him…

BB is a little different than most of those guys because his game was never about his athleticism. Now neither was Okudah’s, but he was an outside corner. There’s a pretty high threshold you have to hit there and once you fall below it, that’s the end. Safety is more forgiving, more about instincts.

AND we’re just talking if he’s 75% of is former self. We’re in the era where that surgery has gotten much less invasive, so hopefully we start getting more guys coming all the way back, like Jadarian Price. Or at least to 90+%

My overall point is I’m not a fan of JPJ at all. A corner who doesn’t tackle and who also isn’t a ball hawk? That guy isn’t worth all that much imo. Signing him at the expensive of anyone on the roster or future signings makes me want to puke.

He’s very good at breaking up a pass though. And re-routing WRs and affecting their timing. Those skills aren’t necessarily at the top of my CB wishlist, but they’re not nothing either. I’d say he’s been an above-average corner thus far, with room to improve. But definitely not worth being one of the highest-paid guys in the league, or the compensation numbers being thrown around in here.

If we drafted him I would probably like him a lot. That tends to happen with “hometown” guys. But trading for him + paying…yeah I’m good. If I wasn’t pro Gonzo, I’m definitely not going to be into this idea.

We should just wait. Deal towards the deadline for corner on an expiring deal from a team who’s ready to sell. There are several options like this out there.

We a team in need of a patch, not an “all-in” move.

They’re talking about 2 first rounds in the articles I’ve seen.

If the Lions can get a couple 4ths and 6ths, I say go for it. That’s where they always get their players anyway

Other way around. I’m keeping the big one.

Allow the pass and tackle them well or prevent the pass but tackle whomever runs at you poorly.

I think it’s pretty simple with Branch. If he comes back and plays well then he’ll get paid and if not God bless him in his future endeavors

So, Porter is unlikely to play this week, and, half the board wants to trade for him.

It looks like the same half that is pissed about Brad taking injured players.
