I agree. I just don’t feel that the Stafford / Campbell marriage would’ve been as smooth as the Goff / Campbell marriage has been.

Coincidentally I would’ve loved to see CJ Stroud with Campbell. Stroud is the prototypical Dan Campbell QB in my mind.

I like looking at this topic all these months later.

If we have Matt we likely win faster and 2022 isn’t that bad. At that point Matt WAS a superior QB. I have often posted that we got Goff at the equivalent point of Matt’s career where 2013 was HORRIFIC and Mayhew hired Caldwell. To me Jim saved Matt’s career and McVay finished what Caldwell started.

The Lions rebuilt Goff who wasn’t as broken as Matt was in 2013. Hell, Goff started a damn Super Bowl and actually WON playoff games plural.

Subtract Jameson and Gibbs as well as Iffy and LaPorta and this is STILL a solid roster. And who knows what else could been done by Holmes. Sewell is still here. Amon Ra is still here.

The real question to ask us could Goff had won a Super Bowl in place of Stafford IF Goff had the full support of his coaching staff and I think the answer is hell yes.

So Matt won his ring which I love. Good for him. But the Lions are FAR better off at this point. I assume we lock down Goff regardless of the outcome today AND we have Hooker on the roster. QB is in good shape.

Sat the Lions still won the North in 2023 with Stafford and Goff played the Lions in Detroit BUT the Rams have those three picks back…say Gibbs is on THEIR roster and they have their 2022 1st rd. pick on their roster…to me the Rams would be in better shape than us! We have a great but aging QB and we lack a few critical pieces while the Rams have Goff and lost no draft picks. Interesting to think about.

I don’t think so….the Lions have had a faster rebuild because they traded Stafford and got that haul of picks and they got a Super Bowl caliber QB in Goff. With JUST STAFFORD it’s a longer rebuild in which they may have made marginal improvement but I don’t think they are division champs and hosting two home games in the playoffs. We saw what Holmes and DC could do with an abundance of resources (picks) but now we are going to see what they can do from scratch….so starting this off-season you will get an answer as to what might have happened had Stafford stayed. But my vote is all biases aside….just enjoy a moment that Lions fans have waited for an eternity!
