Roger McCreary is a Lion

If we stopped today where do we stand for comp picks next year?

6 for Amik, 7 for AQM

Anzalone canceled Mays

Loped cancelled Borom

Leaf and others don’t qualify

Players develop. It is common for developmental OL to take off in their mid 20s.

Not sure about your friends but there are many Dolphins fans on Twitter complimentary of the job he did filling in. And all analytics that I can find bear that out.

PFF had him as a solid average starting OT last year. His Island protection scores quite good as well.

As for the Bears, that was the worst OL development situation in the league until Ben got there. And one with a QB that held on the ball and couldn’t hit and stay at his mark in the pocket to sustain ideal past protection schematics.

He was better than expected was the consensus. Many weren’t sure he would even make the team at first. He held is own in pass protection at RT

Which would essentially be LT for us as the QB blind side.

Decent in pass protection, bad in run blocking . Penalties at bad times.

PFF nails it IMO

#64 tackle horrible starter but very good #3 perfect

For us? Are you a cetacean?

I agree PFF is right. You may not be.

Important to isolate his starts at OT IMO.

Maybe, I hope you are right and he is starting level player for us…

…as OT3.

It will be a morbid mistake to go into the season with him as the solution for OT.

Regardless it doesn’t matter, we are still drafting an OT early . Either trade up, at 17, or trading up from round 2 to the early part of round 2 for an OT.

I wonder what they say about his run blocking? He was bad run blocking.

He isn’t.

He’s optionality.

Plan B or C if the rest of FA or the draft doesn’t go our way. Brad won’t be painted into a corner.

He’s someone you CAN start, not someone you necessarily want to start. All the best teams have one of those, and ours comes with a little upside.

You are moving the goalposts. I said,

The point is that Borom has the profile of a guy that could take off in his mid twenties. I’m not claiming that he will. I am claiming that this was a smart gamble by Brad. We’re not done at OT but I do believe this opened up potential tactics.

I’m not moving goal posts, nor am I down on the signing of Borom.

I didn’t know you were such a Borom lover.

Evan Brown would beat the dog piss out of him in a street fight.

He is a great signing for #3 OT. I hope he does take off and he’s a great player.

There is no way Brad is cutting Decker and this is his plan for the OL. Borom LT and Manu backing him up

It is a lot of potential…but that’s danger zone if you ask me. We’ve got to be able to run the ball.

I think it would be Borom RT, Sewell LT, but again, that’s the fallback option.

He must be a real hit in the lockerroom after that meal.

I’m not a Larry Borom lover. I just try and keep an open mind rather than get bogged down by my priors. Last year he kept showing up on the top right quadrant of the various PFF OT charts. He was the one young nobody who that was true of.

I think Blake Miller is the target.

I also think that we’ll prioritize a star at 17 if he’s there. This affords us that flexibility.

It’s not that I love Borom, it’s that I love the tactic. This is a smart gamble IMO.

I’ve like Brad’s bets in general this offseason.

I think it is our only option until we add another player. I think Sewell is our only option at LT. I think RT is the place Borom has ever had any success. I’m sure he could fill in at RG as well but he is not a better option there than Frazier. Miami had some great games running the ball with Borom at RT and they were running right behind him although it was more of a zone blocking scheme.I think Freeling is the only one that unseats Borom as our starting RT because that would keep Sewell on the right side.

Or Mauigoa. But both he and Freeling will be gone.

I think Miller could beat Borom out. Perhaps Fano if we want to work through the length issues.

But I think there is a very real chance that we like an OT that is going later in this draft.

We can’t possibly properly account for the person fit. But we know that is hugely important to us. And I’d argue it’s most important on the OL where you’re ability to work well with others is paramount to team success.

This is 100% exactly what I believe. If Bain, Styles, Reese, Downs, Mauigoa or maybe Freeling falls (even within range), they become the target. If not we’re content to sit tight and take Miller at the top of his range. Boring but functional.

Yeah absolutely. At this point the only way I see Penei back on the right side is if we manage to get Freeling. Maybe Lomu and maaaaybe Proctor. Not for me, but some smart people seem to think he can stick on the left.

And that’s IF we’re into Freeling. I think we would be, but it’s starting to feel like the plan all along has been to move Sewell to the left. Maybe at his request. But all of our planning seems to have been done with it in mind.

I’m curious if Faulks fit for the Lions puts him on that list?
