This is 100% true. Even at a league-high rate, they only ran 13 10% of the time overall. That’s not enough to overhaul the roster. Add a depth TE (which we’ve already done) and call it a day.
I am intrigued that Njoku’s not signed yet, he played for Petzing and is a great blocker. At a certain point he might come at such a discount that NOT signing him would be dumb.
Everyone wants to point fingers at Brad or the staff or retirements or what have you, but this is ACTUALLY our biggest problem. It’s just not brought up much because what are you gonna say? I think it’s little more than dogshit luck.
Exactly. A lot of our roster deficiencies are something that is completely out of BHs hands.
A healthy Laporta, Branch, Joseph and the holes on the roster are OT and Edge and that’s it. But because we have had so many devastating/career threatening issues it has blinded some on how great a job Brad has done roster building from every aspect including free agency.
Okay. Then we’ve distilled it down to where we disagree. I would be open to the right mid round OT. Not a Manu type. Someone that we think could be solid sooner than later.
That inherently means that I’m more comfortable with Borom as the bridge starter than you are.
If I’m Brad I’m seeing if we can get Jawaan Taylor at 1/8-9m and just calling it a day on the OL. But if not we add one more in the draft.
Maybe I do view Borom as trash in some eyes haha. I liked the Scruggs addition to the Monty trade. He’s a player that if I had to start 2-3 games year I’m good with that. He’s has a track record of being a solid depth offensive lineman. I view Borom in the same light. So if you view Scruggs and trash, maybe you will also view my viewpoint on Borom as trash. But that’s not how I view either player.
See we’re the reverse on that one, so I get where you’re coming from. But I don’t see Scruggs as anything more than roster fodder. Maybe he makes it as OL8, but that would be the best case scenario imo. He was benched last year on a terrible line, I’m really struggling to get past that one. I’m also surrounded by a couple of Texans diehard fans and they’ve hated him for 2 years now. I don’t hold out a lot of hope on that one.
JC Davis, Riley Mahlman and Nolan Rucci … I’m bullish on all three and I believe can lay out convincing arguments as to why each presents a profile that justifies a belief in their hit rate above what might expect in their given range.
I do however thino it’s unlikely that any would be better than 2025 starter Borom as rookies.
They are all in the same boat…young with some upside. I actually do think Frazier is OL6. I give him the same chance of hitting at RT as Borom. But let that one just slide
All true and I readily admit I could be wrong. There are often reasons recent seasons might have gone off the rails, certainly, like with Izien. But with Scruggs we’re up to a 3-season sample size, and while it’s true Borom put together that many middling seasons in Chicago, at least he’s on a traditional developmental track for late-drafted OT that sometimes. Scruggs was drafted early and has thus had more opportunity and been given more leeway. If he were to turn it around at this point, he would be a true outlier.
Holmes has been difficult to predict. No one saw Tyleik, Captain Jack or Gibbs coming really. Who is the guy that we think we might pick in round 1 (excluding the likes of Bain etc. who most likely go top 10) that no-one - or at least few people - are talking about?
