Just want to send well wishes to @LionFrog. Alpena has been hit by major ice storm that has caused the entire town to shut down.
Transformers are blowing up everywhere, more than 200 power lines are down, and people are freezing in their homes with no power.
According to my son, who also lives there, they cant even leave the town because roads are blocked with downed trees and power lines.
Sending prayers …

Yikes… We got some of that ice storm too. But got lucky and seemed to miss most of it. Lots of freezing rain mostly.

That’s shorts and t-shirt weather in Canada.
On a serious note, hope they get their power back soon.

Been a brutal winter even for Canadian standards.
Hope everyone is okay in Alpena.

Weird. Im in Flint working and Im in shorts and polo 62 degrees.
That line of ice laat night stretched from Montana to Montreal on a thin latitude. Super weird storm. Sorry anyone got caught in it.
I have a golf weekend in Lewiston in like 7 weeks, hope Garland didnt get smoked too.

They are being told that they will be without power for at least a week…probably longer.

I hope there aren’t too many injuries from falls.
I live 2 hours south of Alpena, and we had a horrible day about 6 or 7 years ago with black ice.
It didn’t even look icy… but dozens of people suffered injuries from slipping and falling.
The most frequent was a tib/fib fracture at the ankle.
It was crazy how every x-ray looked the same for those people.
We had a few arm fractures, hip fractures, and some head injuries.

Some people may have generators as well…
but probably not a majority.
Unfortunately… the temps won’t get above 40 degrees for 72 hours according to their forecast.

Been through the exact thing before. It took our crews a week to clean all things up. Hopefully many have their own generators and/or fireplaces.
Sending prayers to all effected!

The Governor just declared a state of emergency so hopefully they can get them some help.

From a fall? How? That seems more of a side stress or plant and get knocked sideways type injury.
The slipping motion occurs so suddenly that enough acceleration is generated to fracture the bones.
