INDIANAPOLIS – The NFL is investigating an Indianapolis Colts player for possible violations of the league’s gambling policy.

The team acknowledged the inquiry Monday, saying in a statement, “We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time.”

Multiple sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to ESPN that the player in question is Colts cornerback and kick returner Isaiah Rodgers. Rodgers, a sixth-round pick, is entering the final year of a four-year, $3.4 million contract.

The sportsbook account was opened under the name of an associate of Rodgers, the sources said. Approximately 100 bets were placed on the account over an undisclosed amount of time, including on Colts games, the sources said. Most of the bets were in the $25-$50 range, although there was at least one low four-figure bet.

Calls from ESPN to Rodgers and his agent were not immediately returned, and the Colts declined to expand on the team’s original statement.

Rodgers started nine games in 2022 and was seen as a likely starter this season following the trade of Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie cornerback Julius Brents, a second-round pick in April, is expected to back up Rodgers.

The news comes after a report by SportsHandle.com, which cited an investigation into a Colts player’s “pervasive” betting, including wagers placed on his own team. The player was not named in the report, nor did team officials reveal his identity.

Its strange that players from the biggest markets don’t gamble.

Seriously why in the hell would you risk betting $25-50 to cost you your career. It’s one thing if you had inside information and getting rich off gambling. But, when you are betting that little of money, can’t be winning much, doesn’t make much sense. I wonder what the 4 figure bet was on? Must have had some good info that day.

Yea, I’m sure that is quite common, he just busted. Having a friend bet for you that has no ties to the nfl and give them money in cash, no digital trail, seems like that would be real easy to do.

Y’all need to read between the lines here and think like a sneaky dude like me.

How would the NFL and thusly the Sportsbooks know the name of “an associate” of some scrub ass backup CB???

Because they have Eyes On every player in the league, in one way or another.

Team intel on posse, digital trail from SM friend lists/high frequency like/follows…and more.

The amount and depth of how far up everyone’s ass the Surveillance State is, is disturbing. And I know just a smidge more than the average joe.

Good point. Didn’t the Texans have PI’s that were following Watson around on his rub and tug massage adventures!?

Now, he could also be a colossal dipshit and have opened the straw account on his own device and used it at team facilities.

He doesn’t sound like a genius. $25-50 bets.
Betting on his own games!
Pete Rose still hasn’t been reinstated.
Of course, he only takes home a million a year. I’m sure he’s struggling and is desperate for money.
I don’t understand athletes betting in the first place. Your ■■■■■■■ rich! Why?
Can anyone answer that question?

On 97.1 they mentioned an unnamed nfl agent’s client contacted them to say they had bet from their facility as well. The agent replied you cant deny it if asked but dont come forward…

So we know at least one person hasnt been caught yet…

97.1 has a bad habit of talking out their ass. I’d like to hear a source.

You just reminded me that some teams are immune to players betting from the facility because they can’t access the betting apps in the facility. Just looking at Fanduel, there are a ton of places where it can’t be accessed. Here is a list of teams that can’t access Fanduel based on location.

49ers
Raiders
Rams
Chargers
Seahawks
Cowboys
Texans
Dolphins
Bucs
Jaguars
Panthers
Falcons (which helps explain where Ridley was when he was betting)
Packers
Vikings
