The Athletic polled NFL execs about best Front Office

29 guys were polled, who are either NFL GMs, HCs or other high FO execs. Each voted for 1st-5th place.

Lions tied for 7th, no 1st place votes. Behind Packers. Not even close to top 3, point wise.

Top Dog? Howie.

The goal is to win the big game, we haven’t won yet . . . seems fair.

Seems fair and accurate.

I’m not exactly sure what Green Bay has done to deserve so much praise. Josh Jacobs was a great FA signing but they don’t do much in free agency. They haven’t drafted many star players recently. Got bent over by Jerry Jones in Parsons deal and have a huge % of cap tied up in an overrated QB and a one trick pony pass rusher that is damaged goods.

Impossible. He makes meaningless trades, wastes all of his draft picks, completely risks his team’s financial future, and gets guys that aren’t “quality people.”

It’s also impossible that the Rams are higher than us. They went “all in” back in 2021 and traded all their draft picks, banishing them to losing purgatory for the next twenty years.

The Bucs with 2 first place votes surprises me. Yea they have been decent but nothing special. Last 4 seasons they are 5 games over .500 Decent but to be getting first place votes you should be dominating. Maybe they are getting extra credit for when Brady was GM

The Rams do have a very good front office. The signing of Adams was great. They draft well. But all front offices make mistakes. They are paying TuTu Atwell $10 million this season lol.

There’s no way you can put the Packers ahead of the lions unless it’s just on reputation. They really haven’t drafted well for a while now. Their best players are free agents in McKinney and Jacob’s, and Parson who they traded for. Other than Kraft where’s the PB or All Pros they have drafted in the last 5 years?

Bucs have won the Super Bowl or division the last 5 seasons. They continue to win division and playoff games even after Brady/Gronk/AB etc left. They are going to win the division again this year. Great front office and Bowles has also done an unreal job. I do agree though I wouldn’t vote them first.

Yea I would go top 5. But winning a weak division with 9 or 10 wins and getting bounced early in the playoffs in recent years doesn’t seem like number 1 votes.

Then again was the poll specific to a time frame? Last 5 years? Last 10 years? Last 3 years?

That 1st place vote for the Texans….

That’s someone still LOLing about the Watson trade. They’re never going to let that one go.

Nevermind. AI produces garbage numbers.

Also… the Bills?

How did anyone vote for the Bills???

.

They hit the jackpot with Josh Allen with the 7th overall pick….

They have gone 7-6 in the playoffs with him….
and made it to ZERO Super Bowls.

And… they are VERY tight up against the cap….
while having some glaring weaknesses at a few position groups.

That’s copyright infringement. You’ve excavated one of my typical posts from that era and are now accurately representing my erstwhile thoughts. I’ll see you in court.

Its all subjective, but I feel like its a blessing to be in the conversation…

So the “smartest guy in the room” didn’t even vote himself first?

I think the top 3 are pretty accurate. The rest are very subjective. There was a time when the Lions were at the bottom of any such discussion. Be thankful fellas.

That should tell you everything you need to know about a cherry picked “poll”.

It’s meaningless if you can’t get 32 GM’s, 32 HC’s, and 32 what ever else they polled.

29 out of 96 (or more) leaves a lot of possibilities on the table.

This is more Dan than Brad. He has talked about this when reflecting on his time in Miami. His regret was compromising on what he thought was the right type of player. He views it as a mistake, and he pulls from what he believes is a winning locker room based on his many years in locker rooms.

People can mock the “quality people” stuff if they like, but between the Lions and Eagles one team is standing out right now for locker room chatter. One locker room stands out for QB criticism. Dan views that as a cancer, and he is not going to compromise on that. Not ever. It’s all part of the culture he has built and continues to build. Some of you will just have to keep being disappointed that Brad sticks with him on that.

So first eight teams are GMs who win a SB already
