How many of them worked at the Wheels Inn you think?
I appreciate it man, thank you for the kind words!
Again I’m very sorry to hear about Charlie but I really am impressed with this memorial/tribute for him. Along with the Memorial board of the other posters who’ve passed away, it is very heartwarming to see how much all of you genuinely care about each other.
Classic would have included Bigfoot.
Bigfoot carried that coffin on one shoulder while the grannies got themselves all dolled up for the ceremony.
So many choices, so little time.
Missing you today, Bols ![]()
Go Lions!
All, just when you think it can’t get any worse…
@BigNatty let me know that earlier today when reaching out to Charlies wife their son responded that charlies wife, Sue, had passed away in the last 24hours. Sue had let me know once again how much this community meant to Charlie and moreso how BN’s msg to Charlie impacted her in ways she couldn’t communicate.
Just devastating news for the family.
She, Sue, had texted me a few times in the last week to let me know how much she appreciated this forum, the thread on Charlies passing and understanding why this place meant so much to him.
Every text msg that I had with this amazing woman, mother, wife ended with her telling me how she was married to the most amazing man and how much they loved each other. And then, how she loved him so much and missed him so so so much and theirs was a true lovestory.
When I asked her about his nickname and if he was truly a slob she laughed, no, he wasn’t a slob. but his nickname was slob slobby it was his softball jersey name and what most of his friends referred to him as a… I hope I have that right but believe I do.
We had a giant among us, he touched so many of us in his own way no matter the pain and suffering he was going through. She let me know that he had lost so much weight and was under a 100lbs these last few months. But was concerned about others.
Second time in two weeks I’m bawling my eyes out…
Nate, thank you for this community, it means so much and this man, now including his wife, touched so many of us.
BigNatty, she loved your message, it brought her to tears, and she told me it was representative of the man she loved.
Charlie, well done good and faithful servant, may you be pain free and enjoying the discussions with all former denizens!
Wow, just wow.
Absolutley heart breaking. A reminder to all here to live your life and make memories with your loved ones. Life is not always fair or does it make any sense but emphasize love and be right with your maker because we never know when we’ll be called home.
Much love and prayers for the Charlie family.
On the brighter side, Charlie and Sue are together and pain free.
Charlie/Sue - the Good Lord called you home to be together again. A true love story indeed. Please watch over all of us Den members. The world needs more help and love than at any point in my lifetime. Couldn’t think of two better people to help watch over us and maybe, just maybe, spread some of the love and kindness that made you both so special.
To the family - my thoughts and prayers are with you during this unimaginable time of grief. Heaven gained two wonderful souls over these past two weeks.
@frm710 thank you for sharing. I know that wasn’t easy for you.
Couldn’t believe the news when Rock texted me. Holding their family up. Still trying to process this. Appreciate your moments, fellas.
Just sad news
Oh my god… i feel so much for their family thats… thats too much pain in such a short amount of time
Just devastating. nothing but thoughts and prayers for them and for you man, this is just… beyond words.
Awful. Just awful. I had an Aunt and Uncle who passed away 4 days apart.
I feel terrible for their granddaughter. She must be devastated. Poor thing.
I know Bols was battling cancer for a long time and his death was not unexpected. I don’t recall him saying anything about his wife’s health. What a tragedy. So much sadness and loss for that family.
Sometimes grief can overtake a human body. It was obvious she loved him very much. i’m glad our Den brothers and sisters were able to brighten her last days at least a little bit. RIP, Sue and Charlie.
While I still like coming to the Den, I have to say it’s not quite the same without Bols here.
Absolutely heartbreaking for the family. My deepest condolences to all impacted by this double loss.
I also feel selfishly heartened to know that Charlie’s beloved is now with him and their earthly journey has now come full circle together.
To know that he was down to 100 lbs when he was sending me kind thoughts is really too much.
OMG thanks for sharing Frank. So helpful to know the background. I never communicated with Sue, but she sounds about as wonderful as Charlie was.
It’s certainly bad news, but this is a testament about how deeply in love they were and what a perfect match they were. I talk to pleny of people who are on the older side and one or two of them say how "they can’t wait to be ‘free’ (from their spouse). I just don’t get it.
I’d want to go the day after my wife if I ever lost her. The feeling is probably not mutual, lol. I’m not trying to make light of it, but living without a spouse that you were so close to has got to be very tough…if not depressing. So in a way this very sad news seems to have a silver lining.
Again, thanks for sharing this, we appreciate you!
I reached out to his fsmily to express my condolences on Sue’s passing.
From their son
Thank you for reaching out. My name is Jeremiah. Charlie was my Father. Sue was my step mom but raised us kids most of our lives. My real Mother died in a car accident when I was 2 years old. My Dad was my best friend and I will miss him and Sue terribly. Thank you for reaching out. I will let the family know your thoughts. Also my nephew was asking about your message board. Him and my Dad were huge Tiger fans and watched the tigers together all the time. He is very good at baseball and very fast but now has a void in his life with nobody really to talk baseball with. He is 16 years old. Is that forum OK for his age? We aren’t worried about cussing and dirty picks but we want to make sure his info is safe. I’m sure you understand that with the child predators in this country.
…
Oh one more thing. I understand that a Man named Nate is sending our family a jersey. Per my Mom’s wishes we are still planning to frame the jersey along with some messages she had printed out from that board. This will be displayed prominently in my Daughter Faiths room. Faith and my Dad were inseparable. When they were together nobody else existed in their world. The jersey will always be there for her to remember him. It was an amazing gesture on Nates part.
…
Faith was born with a brain tumor. We didn’t think she would make it. My Dad always called her his little miracle girl. They were so close I wish they would have had more time together. Gtg. Thank you again for reaching out.

You can tell him I was 15 when I first started posting here not that long ago (it feels like). This place has my endorsement.
I’m sorry to hear about Sue, but to me, that shows how connected they were together in life. I’m almost happy for both her and Charlie that they get to spend more time together once again in the afterlife, because it was always apparent to me how much they loved and cared about each other. I think when something like this happens, it’s God’s conformation that you spent your life with the right person.
I cannot imagine what the family must be feeling and going through right now. If they are reading this, I want them to know that I am continuing to send them my prayers and well wishes.
I for one would be honored if he started posting here.

I think in fact everyone here would be VERY protective of him. It might be one of the safest places for him to hang out online.
