The Lamar Jackson saga is weird

Hearsay you honor

Plus this has me doubting your wondetlic 30 lol ( this is a joke , please don’t take it personal )

I mean , he’s already been tagged and if he got hurt hurt in playoff game by playing not fully recovered

The team wasn’t likely to tag him nor sign him
For $135m for three years

Imo if it’s me , I’d say the smart play was learning how teams did RG3 who laid it on the line and then hit screwed by worse injury.

On top of that is the complete dismissal of owners keeping a status quo in a situation like this because they all think guaranteed contracts are bad so … while not collusion , it’s perfectly reasonable to see from a business standpoint of what’s good for the league , is to not poach each others franchise QBs because the flood gates will open.

Now of Lamar is quitting on team
I can’t see where it makes sense for them to tag him or sign him for three years especially if one thinks he’s not injury prone ( why would they think he can last a year ) which presents another issue ( at least imo ) in the logic your using on the points listed.

To me , it’s more food for thought to add to the situation.

You are assuming a long term deal with Baltimore is going to happen. I’m assuming it isn’t. If a long term deal isn’t going to get signed, they still have to hold the 32 in reserve until Lamar announces what he is going to do. He has until July 15th to do so.

Once again, you are making an “assumption” about Lamar’s intentions. I read what I read and I have no reason to believe he’s lying.

Agents do this kind of thing to make more money which leaves the player to either be completely quiet or always give very vague answers.

That is how it could happen if Lamar is willing to play in 2023. Have you at least considered the possibility that he isn’t going to play?

That is at least in the realm of possibilities. The chip on Lamar’s shoulder seems pretty big right now.

I’d say 25% chance on LT deal. But holding $32M on a contract that if he signs long-term will pay him $40M-$50M isn’t an issue. Of course, if it’s an issue for Baltimore, they can drop the tag or give him a long-term contract that Lamar wants.

We all make assumptions. You’re assuming that a request for a trade is that he wants out of Baltimore. I’m assuming it’s a negotiation tactic. I don’t think Lamar is lying, under the right circumstances, he’d be happy with a trade and also under the right circumstances, he’d be happy to sign long-term with Baltimore.

Talked about it several times and if he really has an issue with the franchise tag, he should sit out until week 11, sign the tender and play the final 6 games for $11.5M . . . if there is a chip on his shoulder.

At the end of the day, we don’t know what’s been offered and we don’t know what’s been rejected. The media has definitely portrayed this with the Ravens having a halo over their head and Lamar has horns growing out of his. I just don’t buy that.

I guess you must be watching different media. I see far more coverage of poor innocent Lamar being mistreated by the evil Empire of Baltimore.

They see the beauty of the 2019 Lamar and none of the warts clearly on display in 21 and 22.

National Media always talking about the huge contracts that Jackson supposedly turned down and how Baltimore has tried virtually everything to get it done, but can’t get Jackson to agree.

Talk shows hosts are sympathetic to Jackson.

That Bills contract with Allen…whew.

I gotta wonder if more teams are going to go like SF and Baltimore…go with rookies or 2nd tier QBs and have $40 million extra per year to load their rosters.

Goff could have a nice, long career with Lions is he isn’t greedy and is willing to play for half the money of the elites.

That kind of nails it. A sources connection and dependence on information from agents and teams kind of shows what side they are on.

Not here and other places. Seems like I always only see a few saying Lamar isn’t dumb for taking this route. Only a few who say he’s worth the money and is a mvp type difference maker

While most seem to fall in the
“He won’t last” “he’s already injured” “he can’t really play play QB” etc

But as the tag suggests
Baltimore must feel like he’s a franchise guy to even tag him even if they’re only offering him a deal that includes the guaranteed amount he’d make if he was tagged rather than taking the 3 year deal.

Attacking his wonderlic score as if he’s not intelligent yet on a business level , his approach right now hasn’t cost him any more than what they’re already willing to give him …
And that’s while he “sat out” a playoff game.

That’s a narrative - he could’ve played yet sat out to his own detriment of "being tagged for $32m a year vs playing at less than 100% and having that be held against him "

12 QBs make more than $32 million AAV.

Placing a tag on a QB at that number doesn’t mean much of anything.

If they draft a QB… they can trade Lamar…
though I am not sure how much they would get at this point.

Baltimore’s only option was to tag him. They knew at the time (but we didn’t) that he already had refused multiple deals they had offered and he had asked to be traded. Baltimore wants to get something.

I believe Baltimore would be more than happy if someone were to give a pair of 1st round picks for him, especially if it was Indy or Houston and they could get their replacement QB for a whole lot less money AND have an additional 1st round pick.

I wonder what the odds are that in 2023 Lamar…

  1. Sits out and does not play
  2. Gets injured again and plays 12 or less games
  3. Plays at least 15 games but is relatively mediocre
  4. Plays the full season at a high level

I’d guess
1 - 10%
2 - 30%
3 - 30%
4 - 30%

To me, that is a 70% chance he DOESN’T play great for a full season. I definitely wouldn’t sign him to a huge deal AND give up a pair of 1sts for him.

It cost him millions so far. He will likely make that back IF he signs the big contract extension that he wants. If he doesn’t sign the big extension, that money is gone. If he gets hurt, that money is gone.

It’s easy to say (based on his last 2 years) that his best is behind him. Most guys in that position would be happy for a 1 year prove it deal for $32 million.

It sounds like Jackson is terrible and the Ravens should just move on and consider themselves lucky. Remove the tag and let Jackson be someone else’s problem.

I go 70% chance dominant depending on how good the OC is lol

These guys that gamble on themselves I’ll root for

I’m not a hater on the league pay rate when the owners have to spend the money

All the questions you gave
I wonder how it looks if league and team weren’t feeding the narrative on worth

I’m sure we’d see closer to his real worth of ravens just walked away.

They sticking to the one year plan while @DeadStroke made it clear
The money is pretty much the same with 3 tags

And if Lamar does well
And ravens have no replacement
They’ll be tagging Lamar Again with little other options
And then maybe again if Lamar does well again

Don’t They also have to think ravens are idiots for even building around Lamar in the first place knowing he’s not really that good ( despite his success and records) ?

They really screened themselves for being a smart franchise , right ?

What millions ? If reports are accurate it’s the same as a thrrr year tag more or less.

Plus even if it’s just $32m for one year
Though it’s doubtful it’ll be only that unless he only plays one year …

So if he wants more , but signed for $135m and proves himself next year , the $135 becomes a bargain.

He might have made a choice that leads him to make more ie not costing him millions

Next season. $32m and it’s an mvp type season

Then the following season he gets a long deal worth how much ?

Jackson played his 2021 season for $1.7 million and 2022 for $23 million.

Had he signed an extension in 2021 he probably would have made more money in 2021 and 2022 combined than he did. He would have probably gotten a deal somewhere between Allen & Mahommes.

He probably would have come back and played in the playoffs last year and who knows what would have happened. His agent (if he had one) would already be looking down the road at his next extension as he would have already played 2 years on this one. Maybe sign another after the 2024 season.

I hadn’t seen what they offered him then to know what he turned down at that time … since ravens still had leverage to not do anything for three years.

Lamar Jackson hasn’t lost a dime yet, but that will change slightly if he plays on the franchise tag this year.

That’s incorrect. When they negotiate a contract, they negotiate the new deals on the extension. They don’t rip up the rookie contract. The extra money that Mahommes and Allen received in year 4 and year 5 of their rookie deal was an advance on signing the extension that begins in year 6.

Whether he signs with Baltimore or another team, when Jackson signs a long-term contract it will be at the top of the QB market.

I disagree wholeheartedly.

Not having an agent is costing him millions. He’s late to the negotiating table and that matters to a guy whose career won’t likely be as long as Allen but the real reason it’s costing him is In endorsement money.

Lamar’s doesn’t have much in endorsements. He doesn’t have a shoe line, clothing line, or equipment deal. Often times a player can near double their income by endorsements. You need an agent to help secure those deals.

His window to earn these deals is closing and he’s leaving money on the table that he can’t get back down the road.

Jets just traded with them.
