*** The Official We Need to Draft JSN Thread ***

By not taking one of the most certain high end starters in the entire draft? Okay.

Man, that’s a lot tougher to do at WR. I’ve been vocal about really disliking this class, I think they’re all over-inflated by a round or two compared to the past 4 years. I like the value of Mims and Jayden Reed in the 3rd OK, but otherwise I don’t think there’s anyone worth it until day 3. And you can’t really count on those day 3 guys to hit (though maybe more so with Brad).

I really like Jared Wayne (ironically, Addison’s teammate out of Pitt), but he ran a terrible time and probably is slot only, which would rule him out. He’s a big slot though who tested like a maniac in everything else:

He got behind safeties plenty on tape though I’m not exactly sure how with that speed. Maybe he could be kinda like Cephus? But my hunch is he’s a slot WR.

Other WR’s I really like on day 3: Jason Brownlee (maybe the best catch point guy in the class), Braydon Johnson (one of the few later round guys with legit juice, kinda hurt in college which hurts his stock but should be recovered now), Justin Marshall (think a slightly more athletic Courtland Sutton, but also old af), and Dontay Demus Jr. (bargain Tillman). I have all of those guys graded higher than their current draft ADP.

He’s solid. He’s not a liability by any means, but he’s also not going to make blocks like St. Brown does where you’re like “holy crap is that a receiver making that block???”

maximizing draft capital means using premium picks on positions that earn the most.

22 WRs earn over $15 million AAV…. the most of any position in the NFL.

This shouldn’t be this difficult.

Does JSN get open virtually every play? Yep.

Does JSN catch most everything? Yep.

Is he dynamic after the catch? Yep.

That’s enough for me.

Would I prefer to trade down at 11 and still get him? Sure. Though I don’t think it’s a certainty that he makes it to 11.

This message brought to you by the University of Millen

the fact that Millen drafted WRs wasn’t the cause of his downfall…
it was the fact that most of his picks were not good players ot lacked minimum athletic qualities needed…. and his free agent acquisitions were overpaid backups.

Other than that…. he wasn’t too horrible… /S

edit…… the NFL position wages have changed drastically since Millen was GM… because the rule changes benefit passing offense so much.

QBs, WRs, OTs, DE/edge, and CB salaries exploded…
while RB, LB, NT, etc. suffered.

He still had enough balls to draft Calvin Johnson after all that.

I respect it

Jamo had one of those blocks that sprung jackson for a touchdown… he hit the dude like a linebacker missile. Fuckin trucked him

If you draft Jaxon and Jameson gets his head out of his ass then you have a top 2-3 WR group for several years for the following cap hits:

2023: $11-ish mil
2024: same
2025: $17-18m ish (assuming St. 1st year on the extension is kept low)

That’s a massive competitive advantage. Conversely if Jamo doesn’t work out what a life preserver.

I agree :point_up:t4: with you there. Just prefer to get it done day 2… George Pickens. Christian Watson style

Same reasoning with TE

The only exception this year is for Bijan, because he’s an exceptional talent

Those guys would be high 1st rounders in this draft. That’s the problem. The WR you draft in the 2nd this year is the same as one you’d draft in the 3/4th in year’s past. And next year too, which should be another loaded class. This year is just a one-year outlier where WR stinks overall.

That is why i would be happy with JSN. I see him or nothing this year.

I tend to agree. Though I also think Achane can be used in a WR/offensive weapon capacity, and I’d be down with that too. And that’s true whether we draft JSN or not. Anything to allow Ben to be as creative as possible.

Definitely what i was thinking.

Achane, Gibbs, keaton or go big with Bijan… all are dangerous with the ball in their hands

I’d rather have the weapon position not be a guy who gets a bunch of carries. RB is just too dangerous (another reason I don’t like spending too much on it). In Achane’s case for instance, I think maybe 2 or 3 traditional runs and 2 or 3 tosses/sweeps, then try and get him 5-7 touches through the air. I’d probably do the same with Keaton or even Deuce Vaughn.

With Gibbs and Bijan I think you’d have to hand them the ball more often, and to me that makes them less valuable. I mean, not overall, I know that sounds nuts, but for what they’d cost given what we’d lose when/if they got hurt.

@Wenotme @Thats2 some of the day 2 and day 3 WRs will hit. It’s just a messy picture.

But I do think WR 8 or 9 would be WR2 this year.

WR 8 or 9 from year’s past? From next year? I’m assuming that’s what you mean.

You’re right some will hit, but I wouldn’t want to bet on any of them specifically. Maybe Brad has more conviction on one or more of them, I don’t know. Like I said the only guys I’d be comfortable with are Mims and Jayden Reed, but even then I don’t have sky high grades on them. Just better grades relative to the class. If they were in last year’s class Reed would be in the late 3rd and Mims would probably be in the 4th.

Yes. Christian watson would be wr2 in this draft.

Sorry. Yes. WR 8or9 in '24.

Harrison
Egbuka
Worthy
Franklin
Nabers (provided the legal stuff settles down)
Rome Odunze

And then some of:
Arian Smith
Demond Demas
Dorian Singer
D’Zhaun Stribling :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Mario Williams
Ja’Corey Brooks
D’Onte Thornton
And on and on

And then you still some high end smurf types (Cowong, Monaray Baldwin, etc) and the TE in name only types (Bowers, Sanders, Gadsden II, Traore, etc)

Really interested to see what Gundy can get out of Stribling. That guy was built in a WR lab. He just needs the lightbulb to go on.
