Announced himself as a FA though.
Honestly I think NFLN should snatch him up. He’s done plenty of spots there and I think he’s great. Let him be DJ’s understudy the way DJ was Mayock’s understudy.

My issue with that is that he’d have to rein in his sarcasm. Personally that’s outside of his analysis my favorite aspect of Mike. At the Ringer or the Athletic he won’t be forced to be a buttoned up version of himself.
You think? I think he’d just have to make it a little more PG. DJ’s pretty sarcastic. Or at least he is when he’s on with the ATN crew (which is always hilarious, they refer to Moving the Sticks as the “other” NFL podcast and have dubbed it “Shepherding Logs” instead). So yeah maybe for the TV spots he’d have to button-up a little but I think during the draft he could be himself a little more. Maybe not the full Renner experience but honestly he hasn’t been that since Austin left, though it could just be because Sikkema, his It’s Just Football co-host, is a little square.
DJ is son of a minister sarcastic
Ha! Yeah fair enough. Pretty good description. Or endearing office goob sarcastic.
I’ve grown tired of the remaining PFF personalities. Sam and Steve are probably the only ones left with any personality. Their odd couple thing kind of works though Sam’s hubris goes into overdrive at times. Outside of that I just find myself bored much of the time.
Once Tailgate ended I pretty much quit listening to them. I don’t listen to Sam and Steve regularly, I did listen to the It’s Just Football pod when they did draft episodes, but only to hear Mike’s take. I don’t know if the Stock Exchange pod counts as PFF, I listen to it pretty regularly but only after I’ve exhausted my faves.
I really enjoyed NFL Draft Stock exchange through the end of the season. When the content creates itself Connor and Trevor work. But once it gets to rehash season their complete lack of personality turns me off. Their takes are fine and they seem like good kids but they need to figure out a “voice”.
The only two podcasts that I think handle the dog days of draft season well are:
1:) the Ringer guys bc they’re total spazzes and do the pop culture thing
2:) the Athletic Football show bc of Robert Mayes’ probing analytical style. Nate Tice knows his stuff and has this lovable doofus affect that kind of works. Ultimately I think it likely only works bc of Mays’ direction.
Yeah I just think their personalities are pretty bland, it is what it is. Good kids as you said, but not the most entertaining fellas.
I also have to admit I’m not Mays’s biggest fan, but also I haven’t given him much of a chance since the Grantland days with Barnwell. I’m pretty sure it’s the Bears thing, same reason I can’t listen to a word Rank says. I know Renner’s a Packers fan and it took me a long time to get past that, I originally listened for Austin before finally coming around on Mike. Still double-f’d it whenever he got off on a Lambeau tangent.
I guess I’m just sort of a bitter shit when it comes to fans of other NFC North teams. Can’t really listen to Thor, Jordan Reid or Arif Hasan either. Though I do like Reid as a scout.
I like Jordan Reid but man does he look uncomfortable when ESPN suits him up.
I totally get why Robert would be off putting for some. Your PBS host comparison is pretty spot on. I just happen to think he’s a really talented storyteller/verbal essayist.
Mike’s been super complimentary of our rebuild well before others hopped on the bandwagon.
He has and tbf, by then I was already a fan. He’s pretty professional and has no problem trashing the Packers either.
If Anderson and Carter aren’t options, give me JSN all day. He and St Brown would be nightmares to cover and then throw in Jamison after week 6. I think JSN helps our team immediately and in the future more than a CB at 6 in a deep CB draft.
After St Brown, this team is seriously lacking good reliable WR options. Even when Jamison comes back and assume he plays well, this offense doesn’t value having a playmaker TE, so having 3 WR threats where you can guarantee at least 2 of them on the field every down would be lethal. Both ASB and JSN can play all over the field, including being a miss match out of the backfield.
Jaxon is gonna be a star
Being smart isn’t an overreaction. He’s already as much as said he’d rather play with Lamar Jackson, and now he’s suspended.
Having another solid WR isn’t going to hurt a single thing. It just makes us stronger.
Drafting him at 6 would be overreacting.
18 is still a reach, but id be ok with it
Reaching for DB at 6 in a deep DB draft is just not smart. Unless you are sure he’s the next Sauce, it’s not a good pick.
JSN would give us 2 legit impact WRs and if Jamison can be our burner, great.
I didn’t say draft a DB. That’s possibly worse than a WR. At 6 I want a DL or trade down
