The only thing the Lions didn't draft

… that I wanted was a Safety. Branch just isn’t going to be on the field next year, not the REAL Brian Branch, who I play can regain his form. Kerby’s knees make me nervous.

Yes was just talking about this in a different thread. In some ways it gives me hope Kerby might be okay. Branch though yea the Achilles tear is brutal.

But if Holmes thought they were both cooked, he would draft a safety right!?

Bud Clark was probably the last safety left that I would’ve liked. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a 3rd round pick to get him. Everyone after that was a little meh to me. I didn’t really see an RJ Mickens late round safety in this draft.

I would have liked to see one on day 3 but I get not committing major resources since we don’t know what the deal is with our two studs.

Izien, Harper, Clark, Maddox, Jackson … that seems like plenty depth wise. Hopefully Kerby is ready to go.

Even if we did we wouldn’t have gotten him since he went in the 2nd

Ha you’re right he was. So we weren’t getting him regardless.

yeah, but some players are going to be freed up cut, waived, released, maybe we can get a decent S there.

Yep, we’ll have chances to get one if we want another. Safety turnover is pretty high.

I want to agree, but I can’t unremember “we’re good”

Roster - Izien, Clark, Harper

Versatility- Maddox, Rock

PS-Jackson, Strickland

How many backup safeties can we even have really?

The other position I’m surprised we didn’t go after was Center. Yeah, I know Cade Mays, but I’d call him a good two year stop gap. Maybe a plus player, but he could be the weak link when all is said and done. There were some good 4th and 5th round centers, Hecht, Lew, Parker out there that I’m disappointed we did not draft. Lew went at 128, our original draft spot in the 4th. Like Cooper Beebe a couple years ago.

I would have loved to get someone to compete with Mays. Competition is good for all.

He said the board just didn’t fall right for him to get a safety they wanted at the spot. I believe him.

My guess is that they would have liked a safety. But it’s pretty hard to argue with grabbing an OT and DE with the first two pix and then the question becomes: does any safety available at #118 improve a bench that already has Avonte Maddox, Thomas Harper, Chuck Clark, Christian Izien, Loren Strickland, and Dan Jackson on it?

Scruggs is a good backup and McLaughlin is a great young player that could develop into a starter… He was one of the best Center’s in last year’s draft, he was just injured

I was kinda surprised by no Safety also. But I’m trusting the guys know what they have, and the safety room is better/healthier than us looking from the outside?

If not, I’m sure there are some FA available, or will be come August cuts.

Tough to fully believe BH on this one. He traded up for both Moore and Law. If safety was a major concern, they would’ve made it happen.

Pre-Draft: I liked our safety depth a lot more than the LB depth.

There be more vet cuts. Im sure we add a S and maybe another DE.

So far they haven’t added any UDFA’s that were specifically safeties either. They must be comfortable with their depth for now.

Um, the only thing they didn’t draft that bothers me is TE. I’m gonna massage that into believing that SLP is fully heathy–or possibly that they have a tacit agreement to sign a vet TE or two shortly.

Right but if someone went down for the year, we could nab a Taylor Rapp, Jimmie Ward, or hell Iffy for cheap is what I mean.
