The T.J. Hockenson trade has almost fully backfired on the Detroit Lions

The Green injury was such bad luck for him and Detroit. He was just starting to establish himself looking back on it.

Obviously, you can’t take three picks and not consider all the other context. The drafts as a whole great and we wouldn’t have drafted LaPorte otherwise. Who is significantly better and cheaper than Hock.

Hock trade helped us get Terrian Arnold.

Also saved a ton of $$$$ and we ended up with Laporta.

Shoulda used that other Hock pick on TE Tucker Kraft. We would have a nasty TE room . TE3 is a need

The writer failed to realize….

dropping Hock’s salary…..

was addition… by subtraction.

Also that he wasn’t what we wanted in a player. That gritty, football-mad type we clearly prioritize.

I hated the trade at the time because I thought they were giving up on the season.

Don’t really care if it was a flop, because it doesn’t matter.

Keep in mind that AtoZ stuff is pretty frequently clickbait.

yeah, no.

I love it as I have had a disdain for Hock since he arrived.

He always felt overhyped and not a money player. Anyway, this trade was addition by subtraction for me. And no he was not a bad player or a negative player. I just never cared for him.

Just like in FF I often like players or do not like players for reasons I can not quantify. I will pass on players I just do not like. And reach for players I like. And yes at times it is not a great move but I am 100% to the plus for money when it comes to my FF leagues. So it works for me.

I would never have Hock on my FF team. There are many others. Swift…never. Robinson for some reason also. It often is because they lack consistency or have let me down in a big game.

Yeah I’m good spending that net $15m / year on free agents. Hock was an ok player but it’s obvious DC / BH didn’t think he was a fit. I agree. Sam is much better.

It was addition by subtraction for the real team as well. We went 1-6 with Hockenson. We traded him. We finished 8-2 without him.

We traded him for draft picks, not players. This kind of analysis is always dumb. If I trade a 6th round pick and someone takes Tom Brady with the pick, that doesn’t make it a bad trade.

Like the Roy Williams trade, that was great. The Pettigrew pick? Not so great.

The article hit on that.

He also said he was specifically focusing on what we got in return. Which is 3 dudes that are not Lions now.

The Vikings still have their starting TE.

So in summary, the trade = we gave the Vikings their franchise TE for nothing but we got out of his contract

That was a pretty long article, where the author made his points and backed up why he said what he said. You don’t have to agree with all or any of what he said, but it is kind of hard to consider that article “Clickbait” given it’s length and his taking the time to detail out why he believes what he says

Brock and Shane got us through the rest of the season, and, we started winning after he got traded.

We had our first winning campaign under this regime, but, we were 1-6 with him.

He’s good. Better than Brock Wright? We sure didn’t notice a drop off!

I don’t miss him

The last two post say way more about the timing of how long it took Goff to stop playing like Absolute Garbage after he first arrived in Detroit than they do TJ leaving

TJ didn’t cause Goff to throw INTs LMAO

Goff looked like a total bust his first season and a half and that wasn’t on TJ.

I am/was totally good with the move to get out of TJs contract as he wasn’t worth what he was owed by then, but let’s not pretend Goff wasn’t F’ing terrible for his first season and a half here. By game 6 of his 2nd season in Detroit, 90% of the people here, including me wanted Goff gone.

Remember that time Goff threw the ball away out of bounds on a fourth down conversion attempt because his first reads weren’t open :joy::joy::joy:

Remember that time that Hockenson cut off his route and Goff threw an interception?

And remember that other time Hockenson ran the wrong route and Goff threw and interception?

And remember the time that Hockenson gave up on his route and Goff threw an interception?

And remember when he came into the league as the best two way TE ever only to prove he couldn’t run block or pass block?

I do.

It was no coincidence that the Lions got better and the Vikings got worse when Hockenson was traded. He has improved and is among the best at his position now. He wasn’t then.
