Tigers Off-Season Moves

I actually think he has value… Just gotta limit the dingers a bit. He eats innings. He’s a good 4th starter per say.

We should trade him to the Blue Jays.

Dude I just can’t… I can talk Lions and Tigers. But I can’t even think about the Jays. Lost a world series by 1 inch of a catchers spike.

Hey look it’s a squirrel.

Skub, a pair of 3s in Mize and Flaherty and a pair of 4s in Olson and Melton.

Jobe was supposed to be the 2/3 with a successful rookie season.

It’s a solid rotation, top 5-8 with Skub. Probably 15-18 without. Bullpen with Finnegan around 8-10, 14-17 stand pat.

2026 seeing both Mize and Flaherty pitch well would net us a QO pick in Flaherty and free $ to give Mize 5/110 type money.

Big leaps by Melton and Jobe looking hot near the end if the season could see both Mize and Flaherty off with a push to pay Skub.

Then, alternately, there is the whole trade Skub scenario…prospect like Painter? Big leaguer like Bryce Miller?

Much yet left ti be seen, but as if right now, we have a 5 man rotation with a lot of good results under contract, which is wayyyy better than all but a few Non-Dodger teams.

Not consoling but kinda shocking…

16 mill for Bieber is a steal. He could easily get a 4 year 80 mill deal IMO in free agency

Gleyber gonna get 22 million a year? Really?

Give me Bichette, Ranger Suarez, and Diaz.

Some of those are a little wonky.

I dont think Diaz is getting 6 years for age 32-37 seasons. More like 4.

Bieber at 30m AAV clearly wasn’t real. He may like Toronto, but his agent recognized he hasn’t put up enough reps to get a longer term deal. Hr will be 31 next year and with a good season can expect a 4 year offer to cover 32-35.

Also, Trent Grisham at 5/130 is recklessly stupid.

Bellinger more like 5 or 6 years, Gleyber 6 or less and 22m AAV for a guy who doesn’t defend or hit for power seems off.

If they do trade Skub, then I am all in on Ranger Suarez.

Jobe replace Flaherty in 27, Mize TBD.

Clark replaces Baez as starter and Meadows/Perez roster spot in 26 or 27

Benge takes RF, Carp to DH and Keith to UT in 26/27

Briceño replaces Rogers in 27.

Pretty sustainable cap wise. Maybe you say Chuck it and go Diaz over Finnegan if Skub is gone.

We should get Jobe back at some point in 26. Probably in the 2nd half of the season.

Agreed

That one is insane. He has had one good year in his career. His OPS was in the .600’s in 2022, 2023 and 2024

Been a below average hitter most of his career

Suarez’s velo not concerning to you guys?

He used to average about 93… It’s been dropping 2 years in a row…last year that was down to 90

Has also never thrown more than 158 innings or more in a season.

It didn’t bother me until just now when I read your post.

Don’t get me wrong, good pitcher but there are some red flags there.

I don’t see the Castellanos thing happening with the Tigers.

He has been a bad outfielder for four straight years and is really a DH so he basically overlaps Carpenter. He regressed terribly with the bat last year to a point where he is now a well below average Major League hitter, posting an 88 OPS+ , 12% worse than the average hitter last year.

He also costs $20 million bucks and he’s on his last year of his contract. In addition he’s turned into a fairly High strikeout guy too. Finally if you look at his career he hasn’t done well with moving to a different team. In his first year in Cincinnati he was pretty bad but he Then followed it up with a monster season. His first year in Philadelphia was terrible and then he followed it up with a very good season.

He’ll be 34 so he’s not completely aged out of being useful but I doubt that he’s a viable option for any contending team Beyond a few who just don’t have the guys in place right now. The funny part is the Yankees might be a fit given their losing Grisham and Bellinger and Goldschmidt
