The problem just isnā€™t going away. Even if you consider him your 5th starter its way way below expected performance.

Maybe we could try him in the bullpen and tell him to just throw his two best pitches. Heā€™s paid too much for that but at this point itā€™s better than nothing.

He is making $32 million for 2026.

If they trade him in late July around the 20-24th, the new team would need to pay ~ 1/3 of that salary ā€” or roughly $11 million for the rest of season.

There are plenty of teams in contention that can afford that salary.

If Melton comes back and looks good, I wouldnā€™t mind seeing Tarik, Framber, Mize, Mintero, and Melton as the starting 5 rotation.

Verlander will be back at some point too. I know he looked crappy in that one start but it was only one start.

I feel like he can give us real #5 numbers at least. A couple average starts here and there, a couple bad starts here and there, and a really good start once in a while.
