My point was their not good enough to be buyers and if they do its going to be the BP. I wasn’t a fan of bringing in a dude almost older then me to close. You can’t win with a awful.BP. hitting needs to.be better as well.
Well when were they supposed to improve the BP? It’s not like every good closer got traded at the deadline last year or anything?

And that worked out so well in playoffs right? Thats my point. Sure EVERY team needs BP help. But it wont matter if you score no runs.
In the playoffs vs Seattle. Pitching was good enough in 2 of the 3 losses.
In those 2 loses they had a grand total of 11 hits and 4 runs…. In 24 innings!
What to talk about replacement players.
What about all this pinch hitting. Tigers use it more than anyone else. And have the lowest average out of everyone. Maybe its because out side of Tork. Nobody can hit lefties to save their life!
Hence why we keep getting the Lee and Perez and Virling experience. Because sadly they are the next best bats vs Lefties.
And if the bullpen didn’t blow a one run lead in the 7th inning or whatever inning that was, we wouldn’t have needed to score more runs.
We also “added” McGonigle and got Dinger to be an all star bat in addition to what that team had last year. The bullpen has significantly regressed since then.

The team has needed another bat since last year. Torres and eventually Baez should help but a hitter who puts fear into the opposition would be nice. Easier said than done I know.
In the meantime, the team is winning more than losing. What happens with Skubal of course dictates a bunch.

Under -3 RD, losses this year. 38 games.
11 games. Tigers scored 4+ runs. Plowpen. Ill have to look how the starters did tho.
20 games! Tigers only score 0-2 runs. (While pitching only gave up 1-3). Thats hitting!
7 games are 50/50. Tigers scored 3 runs. But pitching gave up 4/5.
Lets say better bullpen gets 50% more wins or better hitting is 50% wins in the games the gave up.
5 more wins with better pen
10 more wins with better hitting
3 games 50/50
Ill have to look at the game logs for the 11 bull pen games and 7 50/50 to see how the starters did.

9 losses the bulpen is fully to blame. 9.
Games where the tigers lost by 3 or less. And scored 3 or more runs.
9 games the starting pitching gave up virtually all the runs.
20 games the pitching only gave up 1-4 runs. yet tigers stil lost. Thats hitting.
So again save% dont mean squat when its the 6th inning and your only up 2-1 or 1-0

Tigers are tied for 2nd in the last 10 games for win % only team better right now is Boston who is on an absolute tear
Im fine with this IF we make a move to improve our team if we stay put and go well a few guys get healthy we are fine then i dont like the move as much

I’m at the point where I think we need to trade him no matter what. I feel like we’d have the same chance of signing him long term as a free agent if we want to make a competitive offer whether we keep him through the deadline or not.

First of all I hate Boston, and I thought it was great when Bregman left and they fired Cora. But holy shit balls they are on fire. 14 straight wins and arguably their best young player hasn’t played in 2.5 months. Oh and Crochet has pitched like 15 innings all season.
After the deadline we get
23 against AL Central 9 home games 14 games on the road
9 against other AL teams (Sea/TB/Tor) Only TB is at home so 6 on the road
18 games against NL Teams 12 at home and 6 on the road(SF/Pitts)
Funny you mention that I was reading my feed this morning and there was something not quite that effect but close from John Vanderwal. John is a former 14-year major league baseball player from Grand Rapids area that I knew a little bit growing up in my church. He often is now a contributing gadfly to the huge show and has been for many years. He is probably one of the top 10 if not top five pinch hitters in the history of baseball and while injuries kind of derailed of what he had hoped was a career as a starter he did have one season that was pretty good that he got enough plate appearances to be relevant
I don’t often agree with him because he’s definitely from the Drew Dull School of say something to get a reaction.
But I think he made a decent point which was you only get so many chances and so many windows with groups of guys and they are missing obviously the closer and they have been since Willy Hernandez really. As good as Clark is, Outfield prospects are common, while lockdown closers are rare. What he proposed was Max Clark and other prospects for Mason Miller.
I would assume Max Anderson is in that group given that San Diego’s Prospect bucket is about empty and they’re in need of a solution at second base, as well as likely a pitching prospect of some note and a lottery ticket so it’s kind of what they gave up really in Leo DeVries and some nice pieces that went to the A’s. It’s almost VanderWal saying that Harris should have made that trade and not Preller originally.
I think I probably do that deal given that Miller still has yours of control. I’m not sure how to address center field but I mean we’ve seen our old friend Derek Hill in very limited bats as a platoon guy produce 8 home runs and 12 steals for the Phillies, Estuary Ruiz is a fourth outfielder type but all of a sudden he’s getting a little bit of Pop now that he’s growing up and Miami is scratching their head how to fit him into their lineup.
I think it would create further payroll problems and having to pay Miller so I wouldn’t want to let him go when his control is up, even though he isnt a FA until 2030

Yes… those of us who whatch the games will absolutely point to many individual games… rather than MACRO stats in a spreadsheet.
The Tigers were decimated by injuries in May, and had a 25 game stretch when they averaged 2.6 runs per game. They went 4-21 in those games.
Since then (6/1)… they have only 11 games of scoring 3 runs or less.
They have scored 213 runs… in 40 games. That is over 5.5 runs per game! 
And… in those 40 games.. they are 25-15.
They’ve scores 5+ runs in 22 of those 40 games!
See.. look at at all those STATS that show this offense is scoring enough since June 1st.
Everyone here who actually watches the Tigers know these things.
Slicing up the stats to fit a narrative makes people roll their eyes into the back of their skulls.
