My dad is from Toledo and went to Ohio State. My grandparents still live in Toledo actually. Toledo is obviously closer to Detroit than it is to Cleveland, so the majority of people from there are actually Detroit pro sports fans. My dad used to only get the Tigers games on the radio so that’s how he first became a Tigers fan. The Tigers AAA team is literally there too. It’s about 55/45 OSU-Michigan since it’s literally right on the border.

Then I obviously go to Alabama which is where that comes from. My mom and her parents also both went to Alabama.

I used to hate Alabama football almost as much as Michigan but now that I go there I have no problem with them. I was 110% an Ohio State fan only growing up.

Roger that. Makes sense. So your dad brainwashed you at a young age. You had no chance. All too common.

I told @frm710 this story when he came to Tuscaloosa that one time but I will never forget exactly how my dad got me hooked. I used to care less about sports when I was around 7-8 years old, and one Sunday I went down into our basement where the big TV was where my Dad was watching a Lions game. I had no idea what he was doing, so I asked him “what are you doing Dad?” He said, “watching football.” “What’s that?” I said. He said “come here, I’ll show you.”

We watched pretty much that whole game, and he explained all the rules and taught me how it worked. I’m not sure who won that one (probably the other team considering it was the Lions), but when the game was over he asked me “do you want to watch the greatest football team EVER?” Of course I wanted to. He said “well next Saturday, you and I can watch the Ohio State Buckeyes!” I was very excited.

Of course Ohio State played Florida A&M that day or something and won 76-0, and the whole time my dad kept telling me “see, I told you!!” I was hooked after that.

My old man took me to a Lions game in 1991 at the Silverdome. I was 9 years old. It was my first ever game. This guy named Barry Sanders was playing and kept making defensive players look silly. I was hooked immediately. Thinking back I should probably charge my father with child abuse. All I got was 35 years of years misery cheering for them. :joy::joy:

HInch interview on MLB radio today

Initial feelings on Max Clark. I think its been everything has been new for him AAA field then major league field finally. Teams now bullying him with fastballs and he is adjusting. He is finding a way to contribute, Hinch loves his zone control, he gets a walk with no hits. Knows how to run the bases he contributes in ways that don’t show up in a spreadsheet.

Valencia, signed for 10,000 in 2018 with injuries along the way, confidence in him gave you confidence to trade Jake. Basically he pushed Jake off the roster as Valencia kept pushing to get better, pushed his way on the 40man, terrible start in AAA.
He pushed a popular and good player off the team because we felt we could use the roster spot differently with him than with Jake, a good player. He won’t take anything for granted because of his journey. He has caught 2 shutouts, will catch 2 games a week as we want to keep Dingler strong down the end stretch.

On Tork.
Question by host: 2nd half numbers really good, struggling then coming out of it, best Tork version you’ve seen?
Answer; He needs to become a better well rounded hitter. The key for him to take the next step in his mid 20’s getting to the latter part of his 20’s. Base hit to right, 2strike hit we associate with a good hitter. With Tork we need to see more than just power. So the pop up, homer, or punch is not the style of hitter that has a lot of staying power. As he audibles to that he is getting some rf hits now when you get 20-30homers what are you doing with the other AB’s? What is he doing in his other 580plate appearances, I’ve seen that wiht Tork in the recent weeks. The goal is to continue that going forward.

Tigers as a franchise have reached the playoffs in 3 or more consecutive years just twice;

Jimmy SmokesShow 2011-2014

1907-1909 World Series, lost all 3.

That’s it.

Let’s add to the list, eh?

Both of those things can be true. Who doesn’t like to be pampered?

Anyone going to Chicago for the white Sox-tigers series?
