Tigers vs Royals: April 14-16

Do you know how long we are stuck with Javy Baez contract? We need that to go away to hopefully put towards skubals contract.

One more year after this one.

Very excited about the future of the team with McGonigle, Keith, Dingler and hopefully Clark.

Javy’s deal dies right as Greene enters his last year of control and I have always imagined the $24m just shifting to Greene on a 7/210 kind of extension deal. Greene is young and will hit FA at age 28.

Hey, look, nobody is extending pitchers! Well, except Garrett Crochet got one 2 yrs ago. Also, Crochet has given up over 1/4 of the earned runs he did all last year…leads MLB.

The Phillies gave Sanchez and Luzardo some money in extensions right before the season started this year IIRC.

I’m not as big of a fan as extending catchers because those guys just get beat up and can have multiple season long stretches of just not being themselves because they’re so nicked.

Hello, Adley Rutschman!

But then again you see guys like Will Smith, so it’s tough to figure on young catchers who are both a positive with the arm, behind the plate with the pitch calling and blocking and all that and then also with the bat. There’s not many guys with all three phases of that game so I wouldn’t mind an offered a Dingler as well but with these extensions you’re trying to buy out a guy who you think is going to be making $40 million a year 50 million a year 60 million a year on those years of free agency that you’re buying out, and catchers will never get that.

So the question becomes what really do you offer a guy at that position? It’s kind of like having a fantastic Dual Purpose running back like Gibbs. Will Anderson and Hutch and Garrett Etc are all going to get paid two to three times what Gibbs is going to get even though they’re all top five at their position. Same deal with catcher

They did though Jesus Lizard was fairly deep into his control at that point and Sanchez is a little bit different because he was already signed to an extension before this extension and he’s pretty old for a guy with that little experience. His first season with 30 starts came at age 27 and he’s 29 now.

But you are right I should have said nobody is giving pictures these types of early extensions in their pre arbitration 3-year. For guys under the age of 24. Not for want of Pittsburgh to have Skenes sign something but he was very right to give them a cold shoulder until they prove they weren’t the giant s*** organization they’ve been for the last 40 years, and these moves they’ve made Personnel wise are short-term so until they go out and sign a big bath that has a long future of predictable production then I would continue to think Skenes will do the same

Often Catchers don’t call the pitches as much anymore. Catchers rely on signals from the Tigers Bench for the pitch-calling…It relieves a lot of in-game stress all the way around. Bench, Catcher, & Pitcher, especially with young Pitchers. - GOALPOST

Is weather supposed to be an issue today?

It looks like there is some storms down there. Hopefully it clears up. We have floods all over the place up north. @wolfcub36 oscoda is under water. They are evacuating and sandbagging.

Do the Tigers do this, call pitches from the bench? I know other teams do this but I thought the Hinch said they wouldn’t be doing that in Detroit.

Tigers have four starters with a lot of experience and couple with not so much.

My understanding is Dingler/Rogers call the pitches.
