From the link:
In an article written by Jim Bowden, he mentions that the Red Sox are likely to move on from Jarren Duran this winter. The Tigers were brought up as 1 of 5 teams that “would love to land him.”
Duran, 29, slashed .256/.332/.442 with 16 homeruns, a 111 wRC+ and 3.9 fWAR over 157 games with Boston. Duran has elite speed (91st percentile) although his defense took a step down from 2024 this season. Duran’s best year came in 2024 when he posted a 6.8 fWAR.
Duran is under team control through the 2028 season, which means it would take a large haul to acquire him. Would you entertain this idea?
===========
My questions are how would his defense play in COPA vs Fenway if it took a step back while playing a smaller park.
Same questions for his production on offense, playing in Fenway with the Green Monster and short fence vs the vast OF of COPA.
Duran is talented… Over the last 3 years has been around .800 ops and can steal 25 bases
Good overall player. Not a ton of power but lots of doubles and triples and still can hit 15 to 20 dongs
For a guy who homered only 16 times playing at Fenway as his home park, he also struck out 169 times. Don’t we have enough guys that strike out a lot? I like his speed but the strikeouts are a concern.
Fenway is tough for left handed hitters to hit homers. That power alley in Right field is deep. And real deep in center too. For right handed batters is the huge advantage
Fits right in
Lefty. So he overlaps Carpenter.
Unless Carp goes full DH.
Which makes Keith play the field full time, because also lefty.
That’s ok. Durran will cost more in players than cash. But he isnt what the team said they needdd- high contact rh power hitter infielder. Pretty much he is the opposite in every way.
He isnt really a CF and again, Clark Train coming…
No, they aren’t trading Greene.
Could they trade Anderson Perez and JHM and a prospect? (This is the same deal I saw in a national website to get Hunter Greene, btw).
Keith at 3rd, McGonigle/Baez up the middle..Or Baez in CF McGonigle at SS and Zack at 2b?
Maybe.
Puts Vierling as RH DH/UT.
Hmmmm.
Would do that deal for Hunter Greene in a heartbeat if he has more than one year of control left.
He’s basically Mike Yastrzemski +. Which is a nice useful player but I sure as hell wouldn’t be taking him back as any meaningful part of a Skubal trade.
Apparently the same article mentions that we are going to consider trading Skubal at the winter meetings, and that we’re also going to try to go after Freddy Peralta, which I find very interesting.
To me, if you trade for Peralta, then there’s no reason to trade Skubal, because I don’t see us extending Peralta either.
Peralta at 85% Skub dominance for 50% the price is I’m sure the mathing going on there.
Well then why not just try to sign him in '27? The lockout?
I wondered about the Brewers in a three way. I think getting Peralta makes a ton of sense.
Where Skub goes to Mets Tong and Clifford to the Brewers and Peralta/Jett/Sproat come to Detroit
That would give the mets the best pitcher from the AL
That would give the brewers 2 top prospects from the mets
that would give detroit a replacement pitcher and a few young prospects that are mlb ready
That sounds like a good outcome for all involved.
I assume the prospect is lower profile than Anderson?
If that’s all it takes to get 4 WAR players then sign me up.
Trade spec never really comes to fruition, but in this case I would see the Tigers moving on from Carpenter. Seems pretty clear Hinch doesn’t really love him anyway.
Yeah, would need to be a decent prospect for sure. JHM is filler.
Jaden Hamm?
Why would the Red Sox do this? Not sure why they want to move on from Duran anyhow
~
Digging in to this it looks like they would want starting pitching back. That would be Melton, at minimum
Melton and Anderson + + may too much to give.
I don’t think they necessarily do want to move on from him but they are running into a bit of a prospect Log Jam kind of like we are on the infield. Especially if Bregman comes back to them.
They have Anthony, Abreu, Password and Kristian Campbell for OF, with Mayer at 3b and Yoshida at DH, Story SS Rafaella 2b and C a sas 1b. And that’s with no FA add, which they will because they dropped Devers contract…which likely goes to pitching, as you say…
