Do the Lions match the $12M/3yr contract with $6M guaranteed?
- Yes they match the offer
- No they give him to Shanahan
Do the Lions match the $12M/3yr contract with $6M guaranteed?
I think if they were going to match, there’s no need to wait.
Most offer sheets contain some variety of a ‘poison pill’ in the contract that encourages the original team to let them go.
Yea, with TC if they wanted Brock back, feels like they would have matched already
TE2 is in the draft it seems, some good blocking TE’s day 3
do we get anything draft wise if we let him go? or is it basically just a free agent we could respond to?
He was an RFA that we tendered at first right of refusal level. So we get nothing back but get a chance to match.
And im pretty sure the poison pill clauses were banned.
Personally i dont want to pay him 4 mil apy but i also dont want a TE who has been on our system for 3 years to goto a conference rival. TEs have to learn the whole offense. I dont want that info in Shanahan 's hands. It might be worth the extra cash just for that
I thought they purposefully wait to inconvenience the other team from bidding on someone elsewhere. Have the rules changed on that?
What is SF cap situation? Seems like they’re always paying guys.
@BarrySanders20 they are the masters of the cap. They spend a ton, let guys go, get comp picks, and still have cash to spend.
Poison Pills no longer allowed….
'Poison pills' are no longer allowed in NFL contracts—here's why - Sports Illustrated.
SF botched a bunch of draft pics so they dont have as many high end guys coming due. Trey lance freed up a lot of money that would be spent on 3 first round picks. They nailed the important one with the 7th rd qb so that also frees up money. Plus it looks like they arent paying Ayuck.
There’s always a workaround…
all contracts must be approved by the league office.
When you pay your starting quarterback $1 million per year, you got money to spend.
San Fran has got like 10 extra 3rd rounders for minority coaches getting head coach or GM gigs.
I just see it as another Jamaal Williams situation, where Brad set his price and Brock wanted more. Brad does not have a history of giving in when those situations arise. Brad is a man of surprises though. But salary seems to be the one area where he’s somewhat predictable. At least to date.
They’re comfortable with Mitchell and Zylstra, it appears.
It sucks to see guys like JRey and Wright go, but, this is what we have to do to keep the Core together, long term.
at first i thought they would match. But if that was the case it seems like they would have by now
A “villian” would wait till the last few seconds available to make a decision.
It will be 7 picks after the 2025 draft…. crazy!
Exactly. If I remember correctly, Mayhew, Ran Carthan, Mike McDaniels, DeMeco Ryans, and Robert Salah all broguht them two compt 3rd rounder each. I believe they were all within 3-4 years of each other too. That is a ton of talent to add to the roster.
