Topic of JSN @ WR

fun facts: in 2020: 7games 10 receptions 49 yards 1 TD receiving. 4.9 YPC.

2021: 13 games 95 receptions 1,608 yards, 9 TD’s rec. 16.9 YPC

2022: 3 games 5 receptions 43 yards , 8.8 YPC 0 TD’s

I never was a big fan, but I’ll tell you now that if we do draft him , I trust our staff as a whole.

The only reason I wouldn’t be upset about JSN is:

  1. In Brad We Trust
  2. Any injury to ARSB would be catastrophic to Goff and this offense

I think ARSB has saved Jared Goff’s career, frankly.

good stuff as usual @Nate , I think St Brown has helped Jared come along to, but then it’s little surprise because St Brown is a beast.

I love the skill positions, so I’m biased, but I’d take him at 6 over anyone not named Carter or Anderson… I think the trenches are good enough right now to warrant picking someone who isn’t a lineman

JSN is a legit option. I don’t know enough to differentiate between him, Nolan Smith, Christian Gonzalez, etc., but he’s definitely in that top tier of guys, IMO.

IMO they are differentiated by risk. JSN is so absurdly safe while still carrying upside.

He won’t make it to 18… He could go to Tennessee, Atlanta, GB, Houston… He’s the only 1st round grade WR in this draft IMO

I don’t know, a guy like AT Perry that is 6’4 and at least 200 pounds and also had two 1,000+ yard seasons to his name and double the career TD’s sounds better to me.

I am on this guys bandwagon @ WR.

I think he is the best wr in a weak wr draft. I also think he is a St Brown clone and we already have one St Brown, plus just spent a 1st on Jamo, so id rather not see us spend 1st round on a 3rd WR option.

I don’t consider it a “weak” WR draft when over 13 of them had very close to 2,000 yards, reached over 2,000 , or had 3,000 and some yards…

Now you can call it weak -because YOU think they played against weak defenses…you can call it a weak class, because YOU think…they came from poor schools , OR YOU can call it a weak class because you don’t really like anybody in it.

It’s a class with 30 WR’s (that I know of)
.
Kayshon Boutte - had 1,782 career yards receiving ( I guess you can say he wasn’t FAR from 2,000).

Quentin Johnston-had 2,190 yards career receiving.

JSN- had 1,898 career yards receiving.

Jordan Addison-had 3,134 career yards receiving.

Rashee Rice -had 3,111 career yards receiving.

Josh Downs- 2483 career rec yards.

Zay Flowers- 3,058 career rec yards.

AT Perry- 2,882 career rec yards.

Marvin Mims- 2, 399 rec yards career.

Parker Washington-1,920 .

Jayden Reed-2,888 career receiving yards.

Xavier Hutchingson- 2,929 career rec yards.

Nathaniel Dell- 3,519 career rec yards.

Dontay Demus- 2,009 receiving yards.

Charlie Jones 2,079 .

Jalen Cropper- 2,701 career rec yards.

Michael Jefferson- 2,407 .

Ronnie Bell- 2,269 yards.

Kayshon Boutte might go day 3 or be undrafted.
Terrible workouts…. and not known for great effort.

Overview of AT Perry

Long wideout with quick feet and erratic hands who falls neatly into the category of higher-ceiling, lower-floor prospect. Perry has been highly targeted and highly productive over the last two seasons. He’s crafty but physical in the early stages of the route and flashes the ability to become a more dangerous route runner with additional work. He has the tools to work all three levels of the field, but his drops and ordinary ball skills sap some of the excitement surrounding his massive wingspan. Perry’s inconsistencies can be frustrating, but his talent and traits make him worthy of a Day 2 selection as a potential WR2/3.

Strengths

  • Tall wideout with elite arm length.
  • Able to stutter and widen to beat press.
  • Shows corners a variety of speeds early in the route.
  • Resilience to play through grabby, physical coverage.
  • Loose ankles allow for tight cornering and cuts.
  • Carries good long speed on vertical routes.
  • Protects the throw by driving back on the throw.
  • Feet to evade a tackle and size to break one.

Weaknesses

  • Shows inconsistent vertical push to threaten off-man coverage.
  • Takes him time to execute change of direction.
  • Lacks ideal coordination adjusting to the throw.
  • Allows football to get on top of him, leading to drops (17 over past two seasons, per PFF).
  • Below average feel for footwork on sideline grabs.
  • Unlikely to spring many runs with tough blocking.

4.47 40 with no agility testing (because he was rumored that he would test terribly in the 3 cone and short shuttle). Also Dan wont have wrs that dont block on his team. Drops may have been due to small hands as well.

ah yes , because below-average starters -always have more than one , 1,000+yard seasons , have more career TD’s than a handful of their peers , average DAMN close to 16 YPC, and was a football winner at the colligate level.

he has things to work on : getting separation , and add to his route tree.

Can’t wait until the drsft is over so we can put to bed the ridiculous JSN at 6 talk…

We already have our slot guy, and I just don’t see the fit…

He played in the slot because he had 2 first round draft picks that were upper class men (Wilson and Olave) ahead of him on the depth chart. His measurements are virtually identical to Justin Jefferson’s who also played primarily in the slot in college for the same reason. He is not exclusively a slot receiver and has been reviewed by his coach as a better WR than either Olave or Wilson, but a tier below Harrison.

You are arguing with Nfl.com not me…

You know a ton of good college receivers couldnt cut it in the league right?

JSN has a higher probablility of being a great player in the league than 90% of the other 1st round picks this year. Passing on talent is ridiculous. I cant help you if you just see him as a slot. I absolutely do not agree with that statement. He will be a top 20 wr in the league. Dont pass on Donald again… bpa all the way

He will be a slot in the NFL more often than not. It’s his best trait so why changge that? If u want him at 6 he better be a top 10 WR in the NFL not top 20…

He projects as a plus slot WR in the league

I honestly don’t think he’s even in the conversation at 6. They haven’t even met with him at all as of now.

Blockquote

Does anyone think the Lions would have JSN, Jamo and ARSB on a 2nd contract together?
Does that impact your draft projections?

For me it does. Even with JSN being the best WR in the draft this year, it’s a devalued position in Detroit because ARSB is a foundational piece that will be re-upped soon and if Jamo pops, he’ll be a top-tier wage-earner at WR. Two players of their caliber puts you in the top-5 positional spending in the entire NFL. Is there room for a third? No says I. For that reason, JSN would only be a consideration as a later pick where the team would be content with either him or Jamo becoming a 1-contract player.

Let’s assume, for just a moment that we will continue to push ARSB as the #1 option and he catches 100 balls.

Let’s also assume that Jamo will be the #2 option and hopefully catch a ton of passes as well.

While JSN would be an upgrade over our current #3 WR, I just don’t see it being a HUGE upgrade. Our WR’s caught 236 balls last year. 108 went to ARSB. I’m expecting ARSB to have another 100. I’m looking at 75 for Jamo. That leaves 61 balls (obviously the numbers won’t be the same or anyway exactly these, just a mental exercise) for JSN, Raymond and Reynolds. Let’s say that JSN were to get 40. How much of a difference would it be between JSN catching 40 (leaving 10 each for Raymond/Reynolds) vs Raymond/Reynolds splitting those 60 catches.

JSN, no matter how wonderful some of you seem to think he is, won’t be our #1 or #2 WR. He will be fighting with proven NFL vets for #3 playing time. ARSB & Jamo both love to hit people so you will have a hard time getting them off the field.

That all being said, I think a WR would definitely make sense at some point as we will definitely be looking to add lower priced depth at the position. I just don’t see it in the 1st round when we are already 2 deep at the position for the next 2 seasons.
