Toronto Blue Jays

They should go full rebuild… but they spent hundreds of millions on stadium renovations the past 2 years so they don’t want to have a bunch of empty seats. It sucks. They will try to remain competitive… but it’s an aging roster with a massive payroll going absolutely nowhere. The AL east has 4 better teams.

Careful what you ask for!
We’re on our eighth or ninth year of a rebuild and are just sniffing .500 now.

Haha when your payroll is 250 mill and your the worst team in your own division… there really shouldn’t be any other option.

The current GM and President… 9 seasons…0 playoff wins with a massive payroll. Playoff record in those 9 seasons… 0 and 6. They must have incriminating videos and pictures of ownership.

I just saw that they put Bichette back on the IL.

The Kid is having a rough year.

Yep unfortunately it started last year. He was batting over .300 in late July. Got injured. Missed 25 games and we he came back in September and October he was terrible. It’s been about 110 game stretch now where he’s batting .220

I wouldn’t be surprised he’s done for 2024. Massive slump, plus reoccurring injuries. Shut em down

Best value: Johnny King, LHP at 95th overall

Where best player drafted ranks on team list: 4th (Trey Yesavage)

Sleeper to watch: I’m a big believer in King. The 6-foot-4 lefty is still 17 years old until next week, runs his fastball into the mid-90s in every start and has three pitches that flash above-average potential. He slings from a lower slot, which helps give him a data-friendly approach angle along with the ability to get lateral movement on his breaking ball and changeup. He delivers every pitch with intent like it’s a Mortal Kombat finishing move.

One big thought: The Jays picked potential starting pitchers with their first three picks, chasing the ability to have optionable, quality rotation depth. Yesavage had a bizarre injury to end his year but has three above-average pitches and control that makes it easy to project him into a big league rotation. Khal Stephen has a similar profile with a little less raw stuff but also has a shot to be in the upper minors at this point next year. Keep an eye on Austin Cates (medium-stuff starter type who could take off with more velocity), Carson Messina (Cole Messina’s little brother, whose velocity spiked into the mid-90s this spring) and Sean Keys (Bucknell third baseman with a strong power and patience profile)

Bowden Francis last 4 starts…

29 innings 6 hits 2 ER’s

Dude is on fire. Took a no hitter into the 9th last start. Took another no hitter into the 6th tonight. Been a rough season… But Francis has been a positive.

For the closet Tiger fan clinging to his BlueJays, can we bring back the Expos?

21. Toronto Blue Jays

Record: 67-72
Last Power Ranking: 22

Biggest September priority: Make progress on that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. extension

Toronto declined to move Guerrero at the trade deadline, keeping the face of the franchise as the centerpiece of a roster going nowhere. Fair enough. The Blue Jays believe they can contend next year. If so, they should still be thinking about making Guerrero, who can become a free agent heading into 2026, part of the team’s long-term future. He has hit at an elite level in 2024 after a pair of less dynamic seasons. In fact, his 168 OPS+ as of Monday morning was slightly better than his 167 OPS+ in 2021, when he challenged Shohei Ohtani for the American League MVP. The team will have to pay a fortune to extend Guerrero, still only 25, through his prime. No worries. The club can afford it. — McCullough

Yea Vlad has had a massive 2nd half. Wish it meant something. I’d imagine the Jays are gonna try to extend him this offseason… But if him and his agent are all in on testing free agency… Almost have to trade him. Look what the Padres got for Soto for a 1 year rental player. Vlad’s value after this monster season is essentially at all time high. 25 years old, batting .330 with a 960 OPS.

If they get cute and Vlad walks in free agency and they get nothing for him…wow that would be terrible. That’s why they gotta fire the current President and GM…they will surely ■■■■ it up. Get someone new who has a clue about building baseball teams.

The Yankees only owe Stanton about 75 million more over the next 3 years.

They might just be able to squeeze a Vladdy contract in there, even after signing Soto.

When I see Matt Chapman getting 6 years for 151 mill at age 31… I can only imagine what Soto and Vlad get at age 25… Easy 350 mill for both. Probably more.

There aren’t many teams that will be willing to pay that much.

It really narrows it down to the NY and LA’s of the world

Texas maybe. I do think the Jays will at least be driving up the price. They do spend a lot…not always wisely of course. San Fran has been throwing money around recently.

But ur right…most teams are already out.

Easy… And unfortunately it’s gonna be the Yanks. No way he leaves that situation. Everytime he comes to the plate the guy behind him is the best power hitter in baseball. If the money is close…he’d be a fool to leave the Yanks. ■■■■ I hate them. ■■■■

Bowden won pitcher of the month in August…last start he allowed 3 runs in 6 innings must have been drunk…

Today… No hitter in the 9th again…did give up a homer in 9th but crazy 5 game stretch. Hard to believe
