Just for clarification, if Rakestraw goes on IR, do we get a full point or only a partial in the race for the title? It won’t matter if only Densters get to vote. I mean, Cendric Wilson has an injury, so we’ve locked the title up for this year, right?

If you watched any SD games last year, their o-line was a disaster. If Awosika is an upgrade over last year, Herbert is going to be under pressure all season….once again.
They should ask the 2000-2010s lions

I think their biggest issue was losing BOTH starting OLTs.
Slater and Alt are their best 2 OL players
Mekhi Becton also was a disappointment at ORG.
Plus… Bradley Bozeman was rated as one of worst centers in the NFL for 2025. This position may continue to bother them since Biadasz was placed on IR recently.
Not saying Awosida is going to be good, but also not as bad as the situation they faced last year.

They took a Center in round 2 of the draft so fortunately for them, they have at least a talented player stepping in.
The Texans had some serious draft capital and very few draft needs. I thought they should’ve traded up for an OT. 1st round rook paired with Ersery has the makings of a good Tackle duo. Braden Smith is a natural guard so that right there could’ve made the line look a lot better.
Now they look meh again forcing Trent Brown or Blake Fisher into starting. I do like Fisher some but as you said he’s basically average like the rest of their personnel. Larry Borom type.
Their line reminds me of ours if we didn’t have Penei and Rat. But that’s a big difference.
I think they did a pretty good job overall, considering the overhaul necessary. I really liked Rutledge and was decently high on Nwaiwu, Wyatt Teller and Ingram were good stop-gap signings, one of Trent Brown/Fisher/Smith should be able to hold the fort at RT (Smith may be a natural guard but he’s only ever played T in Indy, and he was an above average one - when healthy). We know Evan Brown is good depth, and I also loved James Neal III as a depth signing, though I doubt he affects the depth chart this year. The main key to a good line is not to have a weak link. 5 average guys will be better than 3 studs and 2 donkeys.
Good for Yode. I know he had some struggles but he always had potential. And he helped us win 1 playoff game and almost 2. People forget he was starting once Jonah got injured. And Yode faired okay. Good enough for us to almost go the super bowl. We didn’t blow the NFC championship because of him starting

I like all the guys you mentioned too…but they are pretty average which is what I was agreeing with. Rutledge was a step in the right direction for a long term solution. They now have 2 guys to build on. The rest are aging, relatively cheap stopgap vets and solid depth guys. No one probably exceeds average at this point in their careers. And a line full of average is pretty weak…A bandaid group with a couple of pieces is how I view it.
I was on record stating I liked what they had done so far on the line headed into the draft. So I’m not saying they didn’t do enough. Like you said, they had a ton of work to do.
