You’d be paying him with Alim’s money.

Lions need to continue to build through the draft

Speaking of Alim money Barmore just got 23m per

Starting to think DT is probably what teams should be taking one of in every draft.

We could afford his current contract yes… but paying him more 100% ensures alim and others are not resigned.

I thought i heard Trey said he wants to get PAID or goto a better team. It sounded like he still wants a ring and doubts the Bengals immediate future. The owners suck bad there. And the stars want to be treated better.

I think with the way contracts are structured & with Hutch next year in Sewells position.

Goff & Decker next year as well.

I think we could slide in a 3 year deal for Trey now…as most of the money for those contracts big money are pushed down the road through allocations & base salary’s jumping.

As I mentioned in other thread. I’m in the minority here, but:

If the trade off is a Super Bowl win next year & Alim is the only guy we can’t resign because of Trey then I would do it no doubt.

Next year is an elite DT class

Reader, BroMart, Wingo, Levi cheap resign, + draft would more the suffice at DT for 2025 and beyond.

Plus Mcneil is so young he could go somewhere else for a few years get paid then come back home in 2028 and win another Super Bowl he would still only be like 27 then

That’s a BIG if. It’s what we should all be thinking (and I am), but if it doesn’t work out that way we’ve painted ourselves into a corner. And one of the few things we’ve learned about Brad is that he HATES being painted into a corner.

I also have no problem moving on from Alim and attacking the class if that’s what the FO deems the best way forward. It’ll hurt, but we’re gonna lose some guys that will hurt in the future. It is what it is, that’s how the league is set up.

I just don’t think a trade off of Super Bowl + one year of Trey for losing Alim is actually the equation here. There’s a lot more that goes into it.

I’m gonna have a hard time accepting we are going to pay Alim McNeil

Ndamukong Suh money over 4 or 5 years.

I love Alim McNeil too, but he might be in the Jonah spot of positions getting paid that we can’t afford to pay.

WR, OT, QB, DE ok I get paying all those guys.

But NT converted to 3T DT… idk man

I’d call it 50/50 right now but we’ve got a season to sort it out.

On the one hand you want to pay our guys, especially if they fit (which I think is a bigger factor for us than most realize) and they’ve put in the hard work to improve. Alim is one of our best examples of that. He should be rewarded by the team.

On the other you can’t pay everyone, and Alim could get a BIG contract as an unrestricted FA. He may want to test the market if we’re not offering enough.

I have no idea which way we’ll go right now, but as I said maybe it works itself out over the year like Jonah did.

I have a hard time accepting that you really believe in Brad. You don’t believe in folowing his plan. You don’t believe in paying attention to his words and actions in order to predict what he does next. You want to do the opposite of Brads MO. It is obvious when you discuss what you would do.

Well what I would do and what Brad is doing is pretty much the same. Check my resume

Unlike you, I post my thoughts before hand.

Not after the fact

I think your concern for player opposite hutch is warranted.

I’d be all for a trade but I’d be the conductor of the Max Crosby train

Trey Hendrickson isn’t that far off from Crosby

Oh I agree but Crosby just fits better to me. Michigan boy isn’t he? And he’s bad and everyone knows it.

Agreed… I’ve hyped Alim a lot on here, especially after he got in shape and broke out last year. But is he worth 20 mill per season? DT’s are getting crazy money these days.

I predicted Jonah would be gone for that same reason.

Alim getting 8 to 10 sacks beside Reader wouldn’t surprise me though. He had 6 last year playing beside Benito and Buggs. Reader should help Alim a lot.

Agreed. I just hope Alim doesn’t get to camp and decide to hold out because Sewell & Saint got paid and he hasn’t yet.

That’s my biggest fear. Especially since 2021 same draft class Christian Barmore DT drafted the round before him just re did hi contract today.

I believe we will pay him. The cap is going up. Personally, I didn’t think Jonah was the type of player that fit with Brad and Dan.

I hope we do find a way to keep him.

But I’ve got to imagine he is 3rd in the pecking order right now behind Goff & Decker.
