You deserve a citation, what happen there is the typical DWB.
Could well be, no doubt that happens every day in America. But how reckless was his driving? That we donāt know yet. If heās reckless behind the wheel the stop at least is legit. After that who knows.
Conflicting reports as usual, but we know the cop was put on leave and the city has apologized. Thereās also that video floating around of a cop appearing to kick Hill while he was cuffed and on the ground.
Like I said earlier, being a cop aināt easy, and as @DeadStroke has pointed out many times, Hill isnāt exactly a model citizen. In the end this will probably turn into another political argument where the actual truth gets pushed further and further aside for hot takes and yelling.
I was going to comment more on this before I realized I was walking the fine line of politics and police in my post.
We have to be careful or this thread may need to be locked.
Iāll just say this.
Is Hill an ass?ā¦. Yep
Did he deserve a citation?ā¦. Probably
Did this stop appear to go too far by police?ā¦. Yes it appears so at first glance.
That looks like the truth to me as well. Screw ups all over the place.
Yikes
That paints a certain type of picture.
Itās like Chips but with guacamole
Must resist memeā¦ must resist.
you went thereā¦lol
As soon as Hill rolls the window up you can tell itās going to go sideways. Canāt wait to hear the real reason for the stop, but Iāll say that having 3 coppers there to start with might signify it not being an out taillight.
Both sides had a chance to de-escalate the situation and neither did. On one side it appears that Tyreek should have acted with a little bit more respect. Iām always a believer in being nice to a guy with a gun.
On the other side, you have some police officers that appear to act with the attitude of āyou will respect my authorityā Not sure whatās changed in societyāeither people have become more disrespectful of police or some bad apple roid rage officers figure a badge and a gun give them license to do whatever they want or 24 hour news cycle and phone video just exposes it. Glad we have body cams though for these moments.
A bit of a heavy subject for Lions football.
Interesting.
So, it was smart of Tyreek not to answer the question about why he wasnāt wearing a seatbelt. He always has the right against self-incrimination. Not so wise to raise a fully tinted window.
I donāt mind the cop ordering Tyreek out of the car. Itās dangerous for a cop to not be able to see someone or their hands when they are temporarily detained. I probably would have just opened the door without touching him. Opening the door solves the visibility problem. Also, Tyreek is a strong dude. And yanking someone like that only escalates a bad situation. It also makes an obstruction charge harder. You need to give someone a chance to comply and then disobey. Slow compliance isnāt an issue if your safety concerns are remedied. Once Tyreek is out of the car, I donāt think he does anything wrong.
The second vehicle showing up is also a problem. I think itās the right move to ask them to stand back. Issuing the ticket is fine, but a polite approach would probably have been more effective (from the cop whose body cam footage we see ā āHey big man,ā ā i.e., telegraphing that there are lots of dudes in a car and Iām trying to ensure my safety).
Tyreek had the right idea when he said just give me my ticket, he doesnt need to answer any questions. Where he may have screwed up is not keeping his window down. He did initially open it enough to give him the ID, not sure what the law says about not keeping it down. Also, at least in MI, a cop can order you out of the car and you have to comply. Not sure if its different in Florida.
Not a big fan of the cops attitude and ego, and both sides had chances to de escalate and handle it better, but i dont see anything going Hills way legally.
Edit: Ok a little more research shows that a cop needs to reasonably have suspicion that someone is armed and/or a threat to order them out of the car. There very well could be a 4th amendment violation here.
This is not the case unless your state has additional protections during traffic stops. Florida is not one of those states. Police donāt need individualized suspicion to order you out of the car during legitimate traffic stops; they only need a valid safety concern.
From Dolphins saying theyāll stand with tyreek
"We are proud to have a strong and positive relationship with the Miami-Dade Police Department and other law enforcement agencies and recognize that the vast majority of officers do serve the community with the utmost character and desire to protect all citizens. However, as is on full display in the videos released tonight, there are some officers who mistake their responsibility and commitment to serve with misguided power. While we commend MDPD for taking the right and necessary action to quickly release this footage, we also urge them to take equally swift and strong action against the officers who engaged in such despicable behavior.
āWe will stand beside Tyreek and our players as they work to use their platform and this situation to make a positive impact in our community. We have always believed that the game of football holds a unique power to bring people together, and we remain hopeful that through the collective work of the players, organization and our community partners, we can create lasting change.ā
So you stand by an entitledā¦driving crazy (phins fan)
Ok
Dude, Tyreek is Rosa Parks in a lambo
This all reminds me of that time that R. Kelly made his complaint to the NAA She Pee.
