That’s good news.

On a different front, the Lions may have unearthed a poor man’s Randal Cobb or Bert Emmanuel:

He’s was No. 3 overall on PFF’s best available undrafted FAs list:

WR ISAIAH WILLIAMS, ILLINOIS

Williams is a specific type of small slot receiver, but one whose quickness can make him a tough speed matchup against slower nickel defenders. He has WR4/5 potential.

He is small an fans wanted taller WR but he showed he can get open an catch dam ball. I like his chances a lot. The other WR UDFA is faster also. Same size or about same.

I agree. When Mayhew drafted Quandre Diggs I was like finally, they drafted a player from a big school with a ton of experience. A guy like that at the very least will make a good backup.

Mayhew often drafted obscure players later in the draft.

That’s almost Cliff Avril-like.

I was surprised to see we signed a CB, with how loaded our depth is there. Found some tidbits on the guy visiting with the Lions:

Now we signed a 3rd center and paid him big money to join us as a UDFA:

  • Kingsley Eguakun, C, Florida: Three-year starter at center, but missed time with an ankle injury in 2023. Received a $20,000 signing bonus and $225,000 base salary guarantee.

Ok. Kingsley (other one) was Dane’s #8 Center and rated as a 5/6th rounder. 176 overall so back of the 5th round at a position of need.

Make that 4 safeties?

Loren Strickland, DB, Ball State SS candidate
Elite explosion and Speed, undersized, his RAS comp is…
Chelen Garnes, S, Wake Forest who is also our UDFA signing. They are twins.

Anyone else start calling their wife Steele Chambers?

yeah I don’t get the hesitation to bring back Chark.

He’s a nickel… and played Safety.

Ironically, that’s a spot we could use depth at on the PS at least now that Lucas/W Harris/CGJ left

Whoa, damn, that’s a great signing.

Here’s what I had to say about him in this thread:

Kingsley Eguakun, iOL, Florida

When I read this sentence in the Beast: “created a reputation for himself as an accountable leader and is decribed as the ‘hardest worker’ on the team and the ‘field general’ of the offensive line” - I knew had to go back to take another look. It screams we’re gonna fall in love.

Like Coleman he tried to battle through injuries this year, so it’s not his best tape. You have to go back to his 2022 and 2021 stuff, so that’s what I did. Mostly I saw what I already knew: smart kid who’s a great athlete with violent hands, but on the small side.

He’s never gonna bust an assignment and he’s great on the second-level, but he’s unlikely to move the guy across from him either very far either. He’ll fight like a cornered animal if he’s ever being pushed back though, so you don’t actually see him give up a ton of sacks/pressures (though he will resort to holding rather than get his QB hit), even if he is moving backwards more than you’d like.

He’s definitely a person that everybody seems to adore. Team Captain, four time SEC academic honor, super active in the community and decently talented. I’d have to think this guy has a good shot of making it or getting claimed if not. Sounds like most think he would have been a 5th had he played all of last year.

I’m really surprised at the OC talent we were able to land, and that we paid up for all of it. UDFA dogfight in there, almost hate to lose them. I think Hudson is the only one who can reliably play snaps at guard, though maybe Kingsley can too in a pinch. He’ll fight to the death to keep Jared from getting hit.

not all these dudes are going to make it, but Holy depth everywhere Batman * I have been in and out, seems each time I look , we have a new FA .

I think both can but Hudson with 10-12 more pounds is clearly the better option in that regard.

For Kingsley it would be more of in a pinch situation.

And Clemens I’d say probably never.

I didn’t even know who he was and I think I watched UCLA thrice last year.

I saw his name in passing a couple of times but never watched him. He was just so far down any lists. Hudson and especially Eguakun were in much more draftable/UDFA ranges.

Lions invite Grand Valley QB Cade Peterson to rookie mini camp.
6-4, 223, mobile QB with a great arm. Dad was a high school coach (and OC) up here for a long time.
Saw him a bunch in high school (played at Glen Lake and made state finals twice), and can say he’s going to make it hard for the Lions to cut him.
Career: Completed 354-of-595 passes for 5,115 yards and 47 TDs…Rushed for 1,261 yards and 15 TDs on 234 carries…Became the fourth GVSU QB to reach the 1,000-yard rushing and 4,000-yard passing mark…Accounted for 6,376 yards of total offense in his career.
