I think we all know who did it …
Also, I think it gets eliminated. Too many in the league have voiced concerns over the injury issue; as the article states, they prioritized eliminating the hip drop last year. I think this off-season they remove tush push.
If it was ran once in awhile then no big deal… But now teams are using it all the time. Even using tight ends to run it instead of a qb. It’s kinda boring and a great way to get your qb injured IMO. Probably why teams are starting to use tight ends instead.
Pushing ball carriers is becoming a real trend. And I admit Sewell does it all the time. Monty had about 4 tds this year where we was stopped and Sewell lauched him into the endzone. So I’d hate to lose that but seems similar to the tush push.
As the Dread Pirate Roberts said … “so you will put down you rocks and me my sword and we will kill each other like civilized people?!”
To me, that’s a completely different situation than the tush push play.
It’s one thing to just finish a play, and it’s another to have a play designed to do what the tush push does.
That said, I hope the league keeps it.
…
The nfl has become to much about the pass
…
Back to 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
…
Banned! To violent!
Comes down to forward progress and if the whistle blows… That rule was created to protect ball carriers from extra hits. Seems like they aren’t enforcing that much these days.
If olinemen are allowed to continue to push ball carriers, and the whistle isn’t blown, defenders are going to go after the ball carriers knees to get him down. And it’s not being dirty, you gotta do what you gotta do when the RB is being pushed by 350 pounders.
I like when we do it though
I don’t like it because it’s specific to the skills of one team. It’s not like the league as a whole is great at it, the Eagles are just preternaturally gifted at it. I mean, are we gonna force the Commanders to throw on 4th and short because Daniels is too good of a runner? It’s skill unique to the team, and that shouldn’t be punished.
NOW if they want to eliminate pushing a ball carrier from behind, that would be one way to address it, but that’s not tush push only (and we’ve benefitted greatly from it, Penei is a monster at it). But they’ve already made it illegal to pull a guy forward, it wouldn’t be hard to eliminate pushing.
It’s kinda funny. Pulling is bad. Pushing is good Pulling will make you go blind eh @socko
I think it would. (pushing the ball-carrier, that is)
If the internet was worth a shit, I’d be able to find the article that broke down how the whole play works. While the QB is certainly getting a shove, the bigger part of the play is the overlapping stances of the Tackle/Guards and how they’re driving one another forward. The Center is essentially the head of the spear. If they’re going to make progress on a ban, IMO, it’s addressing how they line up. The linemen shouldn’t be able to overlap.
They’ll wait until there’s another Utley, then get serious about it.
Right, and thus banning the pushing might not stop the Eagles success. But it would be an effort against it, and it would just look like any old QB sneak, thus PR problem solved.
It was the Packers lol.
meh
I’m just thinking about the hundreds of other plays throughout the season where there’s a borderline scrum as the runner is fighting for greater gains. I don’t think it would be easy at all to eliminate “pushing”. The pulling doesn’t happen often and much easier to observe when it occurs. The pushing of a ball-carrier happens way too often to attempt to take it out of football. (We’re talking receivers, TE’s, RB’s, downfield, behind the LOS, sideline to sideline.)
The Tush push isn’t just the ball-carrier being pushed, though. That’s not the secret sauce to the play working. Think about how many times you’ve seen them go for it and Hurts is gaining the necessary ground on his own. That has to do with the OL’s alignment and the overlap of their pre-snap stance. Their alignments put tremendous pressure on the Center, as Kelce has talked about himself. THAT’S where the league will have to impact the game, IMO. It’s not in a ban of pushing a ball-carrier, it’s in the OL’s alignment.
Of course, I could be full of crap, but that’s the way I see it. When McDermott hints at what’s occurring, I think he’s looking at that same gory detail. Their own (Eagles) guys at G and C are prone as crap and it’s only a matter of time before we’re saying the league waited too long before doing something.

For the love of God, close the curtains would you

But that’s all stuff that could happen (and likely does) during a regular sneak. Will they ban that too? What makes the tush push different from a sneak?
I think it’s a false start every time I see it ran. I swear someone always jumps early but never called.
aw I did some tush pushing of my own back in the day and she wasn’t complaining .
