I’m not interested in banning it. Figure out how to stop it. If you can’t stop it, then learn how to use it yourself.

Let’s focus on what really matters. Tush Push versus Brotherly Shove: Which sounds most like the title of a gay porno?

The name “tush push” obviously focuses on the RB or whomever leaning into the QB when he’s sneaking. But, you’ll also notice a lot of times that he’s moving over to the left and driving forward there. What makes the Eagles form of a sneak unique is the number of players condensed into a wedge. They close each gap in their alignment and then back that up with added blockers. It’s a collective push more than just pushing the ball-carrier forward. If the play is dissected and banned, it will have to be at the OL’s alignment, IMO. If it’s a broad ban on pushing the ball-carrier forward, that happens all over the field from RB to WR. From LOS to downfield.

Back to the OL…
Upon alignment, no part of the OT can be lined up directly behind the OG. No part of the OG can be lined up directly behind the C. TE/RB type off-ball stuff, no changes. A change, maybe, that defines not just a vertical alignment constituting “on the line of scrimmage”, but a horizontal one as well that doesn’t allow OL to overlap one another.

Again, I could be full of crap and influenced just a bit too much by whatever “anatomy of the tush-push” video (or whatever it was called) I watched a couple years ago.

There are a lot of coaches that seemingly don’t want to run it the way Philly does. It’s not about the ball-carrier, IMO.

You would think that the fudge packers would be ok with it.

I’d say don’t ban the push. But change the rules to allow players to jump over the line like Luvu did a couple times in the NFCCG. It seemed to stop it.

I always thought the tush push was akin to a rugby play (as much as it can be). Now in rugby the way to defend against a maul is to overpower it. That isn’t so different. Trying to defend a maul close to the goal line is difficult at best, impossible at worst. Again, similar to the push.

The best way to stop it is to not put yourself in a position to have to deal with it. I do not see the reason to ban it. I do see the need to line up 2000+ pounds of resistance to stop it.

I thought the biggest issue with the rush push was that it unfairly allowed the offence to stack players that could push while defenders were not given the same opportunity?

Thought I heard during a broadcast that the defensive unit was not allowed to stack their players to push back and that’s why the DLine was always trying to collapse the line.

I may have misheard too

If that is the case, then it should be banned.

I always thought the defense had more flexibility in formations than the offense did. If I have this wrong, then I will have learned something new today.

Again though, why can’t any team do that on a regular sneak where you don’t push from behind?

It didn’t stop it though. In fact, the refs threatened to give the Eagles an automatic td if they jumped over again. I don’t blame the defenders, you got nothing to lose when they were on the 1 yard line. Jump over, maybe hit Hurts and create a fumble. If not, it’s half the distance to the goal. The refs weren’t having it though.

It always looks like at least a few players are moving early.

As it turns out, the very first rule regarding player positions at the snap defines the very thing I was suggesting they should consider illegal:

Not sure what they’re going to do, but if it’s solely regarding the ball-carrier, it’s going to be too broad and cause a crap-ton of inconsistent calls throughout the league.

Well as @DeadStroke pointed out, it used to be illegal to push from behind, so I don’t think they’d have any problem re-implementing it. And then I think the Eagles will do exactly what they do now and still convert most of their short-yardage stuff.

For sure, because the bulk of the pushing is of other blockers, not the ball-carrier.

I just really hate the idea of the league adjudicating something because one team is really good at it and the others are crying no fair. Either get good at it yourself or stop letting them get into short yardage situations.

I think there’s a very real concern for other teams “getting good at it” to a player’s peril. There’s a ton of force being directed toward the Center. It’s not a fun play for him. The copycat nature of the league will get someone paralyzed.

Love it.

Gotta get plays with a 99% success rate out of the game.

Think about how many time short yardage situations occur in any given game or season. If a team is able to convert 95%+ of those attempts successfully, something is wrong.

QB Sneak = Ok

Brotherly Shove = Bull :poop:

Just my opinion.

That, and I could live without hearing the words “tush push” ever again. Every time an announcer said that I cringed.

I still don’t understand why they settled on that over “brotherly shove”.

I want to see a garbage team throw in a tebow style qb and run it 25 times a game. Then boom. The snap between the legs to the rb for a sweep or pass
