Because it always - always - comes back to butt stuff.

Because it always - always - comes back to butt stuff.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the Lions. I clearly remember Knuckles flying a few times.
I thought they stopped it once but called a penalty. But after rewatching it, both times he did it, the center never actually hiked the ball and it was just a couple of penalties. If that play is legalized, then guys could time it just right to stop it. I could see more penalties for jumping the snap if the center recognizes it and just holds onto the ball.
Doesn’t matter the play will not be made illegal until someone unfortunately loses their high paid QB to injury from it.
Which is why the Packers objected to it. They’re the original tush pushers.
how do you ban that without banning other situations where ball carriers are being pushed from behind
Think you answered the question you asked.
in the NFL’s wisdom they will not ban all pushing and it will create another way for games to be influenced
I just dont see how you can enforce a rule like that.
The only way would be to ban ALL pushing. I mean how many extra yards did Monty get this season because Sewell came up and pushed him for an extra 3 yards?
Banning all pushing will definitely result in lower totals across the board. Because its not just the Brotherly shove its also the catching the ball short of the first down and getting pushed across the line. Or even a TD.
There simply is no effective way of banning it.
I don’t think we should ban the play. Instead we should convince road team district attorneys to charge Saquon Barkley with sexual assault for touching Hurts’ tush. That seems more fair.
That was posted two hours ago and I’m the 1st one to like it? Should be 10+ by now.
Honestly Line, definitely not my best work
No pushing within 3 yds of scrimmage. Similar to how some of the paas defense contact rules work, or like an illegal lineman downfield.
But again. What about 2 yards to go for a TD.
St Brown catches the ball over the middle short.
Hes not allowed to be pushed into the endzone?
Or a running play monty breaks threw the line and meets the LB 2 yards down the field. The OL isnt allowed to push him in?
Again too much of a grey area.
I have no problem with the brotherly shove.
I mean its hard enough keeping a play under 3 yards per play. Let alone 3 inches.
Even removing the brotherly shove, <1 yard conversions are already really high.
I was just throwing something out there to show it’s possible to regulate.
I personally can take or leave it. Its a little boring to have the shove play on repeat, but I dont like to limit the game with rules, if it can be limited by strategy.
On the side of instituting a “buffer zone”. This would allow hustle play downfield to be rewarded. Also the shoving would likely be in a less congested area and by smaller players.
Against the buffer zone: players would be running faster when they join the shove and it would be less predictable all around.
Awful movie IMO.

Update…
The Green Bay Packers authored the proposal, which earned the support of 16 NFL teams, two sources told ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler. NFL bylaws require a minimum of 24 votes to approve a change. The topic is likely to be revisited when owners gather for their spring meeting May 20-21 in Eagan, Minnesota.
Half the teams want it gone. Wonder what the Lions vote was.
That’s my issues with it. It almost always looks like a false start to me.
I hate this. One team does it better than the others so let’s ban it? It’s very typical of the way things are nowadays. And don’t gimme that nonsense about player safety, you literally just changed the kickoff rules so there would be MORE returns.
They’re pretty clear in their responses (Brad and Dan). It’s a football play that they got good at, now if you want to stop it, get good at defending it.
Although they did destroy the kickoff. It’s awful. Onside kicks now… Complete joke. And it’s still mostly touchbacks.
