University of Michigan football recruiting

This one happened a couple days ago and it’s a huge one. You are doing something right when a WR picks you over Ohio State.

Offer ≠ Ability to Commit

Except for Clemson. They only offer guys they would be comfortable with committing.

From what I’ve heard, Day and Keenan Bailey had one guy other than Jamier Brown in this class they really wanted to get, who at the time was inside the top 35 or something. I’m not sure if that kid committed anywhere or not because I really haven’t kept a track of recruiting this year like I used to.

Keeping DJ Jacobs is going to be the biggest goal of this entire class. I have my doubts that we can get him to sign.

Meh. High school recruitment is important, but the portal is where you build a championship

High school recruiting is important for sustainability.

Being good year over year.

However, the portal is the most important thing when it comes to championships.

Indiana is all the proof that you need in that aspect.

Sure 2/3 of the entire roster have been hoosers their entire time. However only 40% of starters were.

So sure. Highschool recruiting for depth and sustainability.

Portal to build a championship team.

So you’re taking what happened 1 year as the new norm?
What Indiana did probably won’t be recreated in our lifetime. Recruiting players and getting them to stay is much more important in football.

Exactly.

Prior to IU, UofM and OSU won the previous 2 Natty’s with a majority of recruits that they brought in from high school and developed.

Prior to the 3 Big Ten Natty champs, the SEC win the other 4 Natty’s since the portal began.

IU is the ONLY team to win a Natty with a bunch of portal players, and Cognetti bringing 13 players from his JMU team won’t be happening again even for Indiana.

Well there is basketball team that did it too.

You cannot financially afford to reload year after year after year with the portal purely. IU was able to do it because they didn’t have any current players they needed to pay big for. Darian DeVries(IU basketball coach) has echoed the sentiment that it’s important to get impact Freshman year after year because it’s easier financially to retain them.

Portal money is finite and will run out, especially if there’s not a significant ROI. Recruiting will always be king.

And, that’s why UM wasn’t able to replicate the sheer number of elite transfers this past off-season, because they had to pay their guys that were already on the roster and had tremendous seasons. They were able to pay the prior year for Johnson, Mara, Cadeau, Lendeborg etc because their roster before them was largely unproven or out of eligibility. Which further proves my point above.

They just added 3 guys. You dont think they got paid. Every uofm fan has said their running it back. And their most likely right. You can play the recruiting and portal game just the same and balance it. didn’t osu pay for qb and downs when they won it all? Kinda like pro sports draft well and add talent through FA. College sports is just like pro sports. There is no cap in college sports

Kyle is a very good evaluator. I wouldn’t even stress about the rankings. Dude has a good eye.

I think it is definitely more feasible to sustain a basketball team with the portal because it doesn’t require many players.

Add 2-3 guys in the portal each year who go to the NBA the following season, and bring in a few top recruits each year as well… and a team can be 8-10 deep.

Oh I know that but uofm team wasn’t just 2 or 3 players. And uofm.is playing by the rules. Every team.that wins it all. Will have 3 or more players that help them win it all. My issues with it all is there are no rules. Unless your msu and pay two kids for hotel rooms

They added three transfers, 2 of which are no where near the caliber of Lendeborg and Mo Johnson. Thiam’s the only one that probably cost a pretty penny. They lost out on a kid to Tennessee because they didn’t have the funds to match.

This years’ portal class vs. last years’ class is very, very apples to oranges and it’s because they didn’t have as much money to spend. Again, it’s finite and not something that can be replicated annually.
