Valenti: Losers blame the refs

Crazy reminders of how often this stuff happens. This is worth 2 minutes of your day, guys. I’m guessing no other team has dealt with this level of unfairness.

i’ve been saying it in a number of threads. the lions have plenty to clean up and they are still consistently inconsistent. it’s going to come back to haunt them and crush the spirit of many fans if they don’t fix it. many are gauging the quality of the lions performance this season based upon the records their opponents had last year and not how they actually are this year.

so far (and i’ll be the first to admit that the season isn’t over yet)… the lions are basically beating 500 teams and losing to +500 teams… (yeah they got jobbed with GB but i’m not convinced GB is really all that good anyway!). that said, GB dominated that game in every statistical category except takeaways. for me this is kind of the same old lion story that everybody was complaining about before with stafford / lions not being able to beat good teams. to this point in the season anyway. there’s plenty left to play for and time to improve.

fwiw, chris speilman sees it the same way. you have to stop focusing on the refs and see the underlying missed opportunities that are becoming a weekly trend with the team

Well, I picked it because it supports what I’ve been saying for some time now.

I don’t think Stafford cares as much as I’d love to see him care. That’s just an opinion here based on what I’ve witnessed over the last decade. I think he likes to win more than he hates to lose. I want a guy that hates to lose more than he likes to win.

Hmm…I’ve tried to be somewhat in the middle and stated multiple times that I do support Stafford, but that I wish he’d show some more fire and passion. Him not showing what I consider to be a reasonable level of competitiveness in countless scenarios irks me.

I know you aren’t a fan of my posts, and that’s fine, but I can point out how you cherry pick some of my posts as well here. I have posted plenty of positive things about Stafford and the Lions and will continue to do so.

Can we cut out this “CNN of me” nonsense? I’m just sharing my opinion and providing what I consider to be info that supports it here. No more, no less. I’m not like…on a mission or anything. Other than wanting the Lions to increase their level of competitiveness so they bury teams that play like the Packers did on Monday night, rather than giving them an easy aid from the zebras.

Win that fn game 33-23 by not shooting yourself in the foot multiple times, Lions.

I’m tired of hearing about refs when we’ve got plenty of issues right in the mirror.

Tracy Walker broke up a pass to end a drive. Refs call b.s. penalty to give GB a first down. (one possession taken away from Detroit).

B.S. Illegal hands to the face on Flowers during a 3rd down sack to end the GB drive. (2 possessions taken away from Detroit.)

Blatent DPI on Kenny G on 3rd down that was not called. Lions should have had a first down in Green Bay territory. Guaranteed several minutes off the clock and at least 3 more points. (3rd possession taken away from Detroit)

Second bullshit illegal hands to the face on Flowers on a play that would have ended Green Bay drive and force them to attempt a FG with a minute and a half left. (4th possession taken away from Detroit).

But, troll Valenti and Iggy say, losers blame the refs. Horseshit. This wasn’t playing Miami at home. This was going to Green Bay on Monday night. We beat them and should have won by 3 possessions. However, the officials gave Green Bay, not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR extra possessions down the stretch. I don’t give AF who you are, you give a team 4 extra possessions while taking 4 possessions away from the other and still only lose by 1?? The refs gave them the game.

It’s not like we laid a complete egg and lost to a garbage winless Jets team, like that flea bag shit club in Dallas.

Iggy do you honestly believe that GB played so well they should have won?

Also if not for the first phamtom hands to the face, we get the ball back with kust under 9 minutes remaining, up two scores. Even if we dont score there, we likely take 3 minutes off the clock. So you think we still lose the game?

Dont wanna hear your rhetoric, just answer the above questions. We can debate after answered

Fair enough! Good points - there’s no doubt I am angry. You might very well be right.

There have been plenty of points where Stafford has proven to be competitive. I’m seeing plenty where he hasn’t been as well, and I do believe that trickles down to the team at times.

I don’t need a lens to see a guy who I don’t think cares at the podium after games. I don’t need a lens to see Stafford on the sideline smiling during a loss. I don’t need a lens to compare Stafford to Brees, Brady, Rodgers, and others who I’ve seen get really pissed off during and after losses.

I’m not trying to come off as a Stafford hater here - It’s just an area I’d like to see improved. My fear is that, if we don’t see more competitive leadership on this team, then they won’t win.

Nobody is glossing over anything. The FACTS are the Lions played well enough to win the game and the ref’s took that chance away with bad calls.

You can spin it any way you want with your Lions bashing schtick troll jobs, but it still doesn’t change the FACTS.

Facts are that Green Bay won the game.

No one is mentioning how the refs gave the Lions their 1st touchdown - I don’t think Johnson crossed the goal line, personally. So - the refs gave us 7 there. No one is mentioning the missed PI call when Okwara basically tossed their RB to the ground, mid-route. No one is mentioning the wide open TD pass that the GB running back dropped.

If the Lions played well enough to win the game, that would have meant that Hockensen caught the fn ball, that Kerryon Johnson didn’t inexplicably just drop it mid-stride, and that the redzone offense would have added some TD’s rather than field goals.

These are also facts.

The truth is in the middle here guys. The Lions aren’t playing to the best of their potential and the refs never, ever help the Lions.

Play to the best of your potential and the refs simply won’t matter.

For the Lions coaches and players, the GB game is over. As professionals, it’s their job to move on to the next game and the next challenge. They can’t be focused on bitching to the press and throwing a childish hissy fit to impress anyone, that is the pathway to a sense of victimization and an attitude and state of mind that is not conducive to future success. Why? Because it distracts you from doing what you gotta do to win the next time. We as fans can indulge ourselves, they can’t.

I think Stafford is trying to lead by example. “It’s over fellas, and there is NOTHING we can do about the final score or what the officials did wrong. All we can do is learn from our mistakes and play better football, that’s all we can do. So get some sleep and let’s get ready for Minny on Sunday.” That’s called leadership.

You DO realize that was booth reviewed? Just because your eyes did not see it you think it was the wrong call - That explains a lot.

I do realize this, yes.

I think it was called a TD because they called it one on the field. I think if they wouldn’t have called it a TD on the field, it would have been 1st down for Green Bay. I think it was impossible to tell.

Having said that, I loved the call! lol - I’m always happy to be gifted some points.

Once again - watch the game - Amos had is hand up inside Hocks facemask - NO call by the official. At worst that should have been a 15 yard personal foul and automatic first down.

Should Hock hold on to it - sure - But the only way that play ends up a negative play for Detroit is if the refs don’t do their job.

Refs and like I said stop with the damn FGs. But if we did score one more TD we could’ve still lost by one. Refs did play a part, but not the only part . BTW when is BQ going to get a oline? Cause we can’t run the ball at all.

The Packers scored a touchdown on that same Drive so frankly other than time on the clock per se it’s a moot point it’s not like they would have allowed them to score two touchdowns on the same Drive

sure sounds like you are - Team mates and his coaches as well as coaches around the league talk about his toughness and competitiveness. He has played with a dislocated shoulder and a broken back. He put in the time to understand a completely new offense and be the leader teaching that offense to everyone while his wife was undergoing brain surgery. Yet YOU don’t think he has the fire of a leader. WOW - I suppose you would prefer he carry a backpack full of loaded hand guns and just shoot up the place if they lose a game? Great leaders show self control. Losers - lose it. This entire team from MP, Staff, Flowers and the others have handled this with professionalism. They know and admit that they could have done more. Despite the smug little OP and Valenti acting differently we all as fans understand that as well. This team has flaws. But none of that takes away the fact that the referees basically gave the Packers 4 extra possessions. I don’t care how well you play, when you give QB’s like Brees, Brady or Rodgers 4 extra (free) possessions and take those away from Stafford you are giving them the game. And just because our QB does not beat the living crap out of someone afterwards does not make him a problem. If you feel that it does then I feel sorry for those close to you because you must make their life hell.

Might want to watch it. My post was deleted for calling Iggy the T word. Not sure why he’s allowed to do that why being a Dallas fanboy here. He did it on the other board and ruined it almost singlehandedly. Now he’s back at it again. I don’t understand why he is untouchable when all he does is say Patricia is fat, Dallas is the best, etc.

Outstanding post.

Anybody that questions Stafford’s competitiveness is delusional. His actual actions of stepping on the field with injuries time after time and playing while his wife is dealing with brain cancer says way more than some dude that runs around like a idiot waving his arms and screaming at people so he LOOKS competitive to fans.

Nobody in the locker room or the NFL questions his heart. Only hater keyboard warriors do

I do think blaming the refs is counter productive as far as the team is concerned and I’m confident that is not their mindset.

As far as the fans go, let them do whatever they want. It has nothing to do with the outcome. It’s their leisure time and hard earned disposable income that make the whole thing go. They get to do whatever they want and shouldn’t be subject to ridicule for doing whatever they want by the same folks that are generating wonderful lifestyles off the backs of the fans.

The NFL has a massive officiating problem. Was part of Monday night the longer standing NFL’s preference for keeping their “brands” involved in the playoff race? Probably. But more so than that the current group of officials are way over their heads. I suspect Riveron was a horrible hire/promotion and that the Peter principal is in full effect. Just from the looks of him he appears to be a not particularly well detailed slob of a man. My impression may be a false one but if that is the case, the position demands much more. The NFL needs to act decisively.

And yet we were still up by two scores with ten minutes left when we sacked Rodgers on 3rd and 10 to make it 4th and 20 or so. We get the ball back there and what are our chances of victory, 80+%?

We have lots to work out, I’m not arguing. But the key is to stack victories while we’re working things out, the way we did against Philly and the Chargers. If you remember most years the Pats start off slow as they work themselves into the sort of team they want to be. I expect we’ll improve by leaps and bounds as the year goes along. Let’s hope we’re still close enough that it matters.

All good and fair points other than the personal attacks against me making my friends and family’s life “hell” lol.

And no - I don’t want anything crazy like shooting things up.

Well said other than the end there.
