What if Brad Holmes can’t strike a deal to get an edge before the trade deadline?
What if other teams in the division trade for pass rush help similar to last year?
If the moves are only patch work guys signed from other team’s practices squads?
How will you feel about Holmes as a GM? He was very disappointing last year at the trade deadline now with both your starting edges lost for the season.
To me if he whiffs this trade deadline he is just an elite Director of College Scouting in the roll of a GM.
This morning proves why the Chiefs continue to win Championships. Their GM and coaching staff knew they had a need at WR because of injury went out there and got a deal done.
If someone like Za’Darius Smith is traded and it is not to the Lions. Brad Holmes will be looked at as not a complete GM because he doesn’t have the killer instinct to get deals done. Especially where this team is at.
Some are just waiting for something to complain about.
Brad and Dan have led the team to the current #1 seed in the NFC with major injuries on defense (Cominsky, Moseley, Iffy, BroMart, Davenport, Barnes, Hutch).
This demonstrates that the team is well constructed to withstand those injuries.
The players that have been dealt in the pre-trade deadline period have been WR’s.
There has not been a flurry of Edge Rushers that Holmes has watched get exchanged.
Last year Holmes was correct in sitting out the major trades as the team was able to progress further than most anyone expected and still had the cap space to sign all of the major players that were eligible for extension.
Let’s wait to see if any of the Edge rushers are moved and the price before we decide if Holmes missed the boat this season.
I wasn’t disappointed last year and I won’t be disappointed this year. Brad has earned our trust, and if his process, cap planning and compensation valuation don’t line up for a deal then he shouldn’t do it.
Even adding Crosby or Garrett would only increase our Super Bowl odds by 2-3%, is that really worth the cost to future Super Bowl chances by giving up valuable draft capital and cap space?
If you have principles you should stick to them, once the seal is broken on that it becomes a slippery slope. Discipline and patience have gotten us this far, there’s no reason to go against the grain now.
Stick with the guy who’s delivered the best and most exciting team in our lifetimes.
