don’t sell yourself short, we’re all a bunch of idiots here
Handsome idiots
The only thing I have going for me is I started balding at 22
I do enjoy watching Anthony Richardson play football.
I agree its not like we have to have him I wouldn’t make that pick but if they did without trade i could live with it. What will it cost is that a expensive backup?
Everyone say it together— “I will not draft a QB, RB, TE, kicker, punter, or long-snapper in the first round of this draft”.
If you really think about it, the Lions are in a position not unlike the one the Chiefs were in with Alex Smith running the show. They were playoff hopefuls, had a solid QB, and a good coach in place. Then they go and trade up for Mahomes, who sat for nearly the whole year. The next season he took over and the rest is history. It would be a big swing for the fences but Richardson could be Josh Allen the second. He could also be RG III the fourth. So if you’re going to swing that hard Brad Holmes better believe in this guy above the shoulders, because he’s going to need to develop his ability to read through progressions, manipulate safeties, command a huddle, own the playbook and study film voraciously in order to become what he could be and not Andre Ware.
I think Brad is saying ‘Goff is the guy and he earned it’ ‘We aren’t going to say we are ruling out drafting a QB because that would be eliminating some draft trade leverage’
This projection is SOL
Trade draft capital to a division rival to grab a guy who sits for 2 seasons at minimum. Who are we the packers?
Also can we get a little bit of kudos for the two or three of us who were team Goff from the get go?
Y’all know I was. Who else was a Goffling?
I was in goffs corner too
I was one who thought Goff could get back to his best and perhaps surpass it. I do admit having a few doubts last year and a bit early this past season.
Don’t let that bother you. This is a discussion board where we get to explore all sorts of thoughts. God knows I have put forth some less informed ideas and received a “gentle” education.
I dont think anyone is saying dont draft a qb! We are saying dont take one in rd 1! Is anyone against taking a qb to develop in say rds 4/7?
I hope we take a low round flyer if there is a high upside pick to be made. It isn’t like a udfa couldn’t be a practice squad understudy. But my favorite option would be to sign an XFL guy coming from a successful season.
Lets throw out a hypo. The hypo is that you are the owner of the Lions and Brad Holmes steps into your office. He says myself and my scouting dept believe Anthony Richardson can become the next Josh Allen with a year of seasoning and we would like to draft him in the first round.
Do you allow it?
To put it another way, take the element of chance out of it. Its a certainty that in a year Anthony Richardson will be as good as Josh Allen. What do you do?
Would you still pass because Goff is good enough and the opportunity cost is too high, or would you pull the trigger?
Because I feel like that hypo is really what we are discussing. Not that we can be CERTAIN of course. But just the idea that if everybody is on board with a QB they love, and knowing how well this group has drafted, how do you tell him no?
