There’s 100% an element of that. Venue really matters too. There’s a famous venue in Austin called Stubb’s and I’ve pretty much sworn it off due to bad sound and a bad layout. And sometimes bands can have off nights, especially if they’re heavy into drugs a la Ween. I’ve been to a couple of shows where the lead singer basically passed out (I thought the singer for Moving Units actually died).
But there’s also a lot of consistency, especially for bands from a genre conducive to a live setting (rock, electronic, etc…). I’ve never seen a bad Death From Above show, and I’ve seen them 10+ times. And So I Watch you From Afar never fails to crush it, LCD Soundsystem, White Denim, Rufus du Sol, Nothing But Thieves, July Talk, the Faint, Royal Blood… are pretty much always good. Some shows are better than others for sure (almost solely venue based in those cases), but they rarely fall below very good.
But like, Sleigh Bells? Tune-yards? Spoon? Yeah Yeah Yeahs? They can be more volatile.

Why did they drop the 1979? I’d love to see them sometime.
A fun Detroit venue was The Old Miami on Cass. A Vietnam vet clubhouse and dive bar that had some cool bands come through. Saw Shellac (RIP Steve Albini) there among others.
I remember sitting at the bar talking to the owner and asking him if he was ever worried about being robbed in that hood. It was basically the only business for a few blocks and being a cash business an attractive target for gang bangers.
He just smiled and pulled out a sawed-off shotgun from the behind the bar. And points to some vets sitting around the tables and said, yeah, half those guys are packing too. Turns out it was actually the safest place to be in the Cass Corridor for college kids.
Nothing beats St. Andrew’s Hall, though. One of the best small venues in the USA.

They’ve dropped it, they’ve added it back, they’ve dropped it again… at this point I think it might have to be there officially (due to LCD’s DFA label), but it’s basically unused now.
Billy Strings came out to guest on Beaver last night. It was sooooo sick.

Damn. Had some friends also tell me that. Now I’m thinking about skipping the Sunday show and doing two nights of Billy.
I have been listening to Stephan Wilson Jr - Son of Dad album. Just recently lost my mom, and this was an album he wrote after losing his dad so not only is it amazing but also hits home!
Ed Sherrans - Supermarket Flowers. Same reason above, use it when need a good cry.
And lastly, anything Rise Against and Phil Collins. My absolute favorites and lucky to have been able to see both in concert!

So cool stories about this new version of Linkin park
I got to attend the listening party for the new album at this little record store before the album came out. The vibes in the place were cool and some of the album I just closed my eyes and vibed with the music(there was maybe like 15/20 people there for it)
I got to see them play van andel beginning of this month. Was rail for the show and my chester drawing I bought like 7 years prior from a street artist outside of a motionless in white show made it onto Hahn’s Instagram but also made it on the big screen at the show and the crowd went crazy.
Fast forward a few weeks ago I was at sonic temple and Linkin park headlined one night also on the bill was I prevail. Linkin park the vibe that night in the crowd was electric(think lions playoff game vs the rams electric) well show gets done and I see the IPrevail guys and went to see if I could get their attention and during that Mike shinoda walks by I got to shake his hand and thank him for bringing LP back. He thanked me for coming out and I got to talk with the IPrevail guys still.

I think that’s still their best work (You’re a Woman…), but the newest one is excellent too. I like MSTRKRFT quite a bit too, I think that’s the bassist’s deal.
Passover is probably my favorite BA album, but I’m not quite as big a fan as others. Seen them a couple of times and once they had the sound so out of whack and the guitar was so loud that people were actually covering their ears. They never fixed it (Black Grease was ear-piercing). The second time the lead singer got in an argument with what he said was a stalker in the crowd and walked off after three songs (after cussing the doorman for letting her in). So yeah, screw those guys.
He actually just left the band the rumor is with his eagle syndrome and that he had to step down

It is. Their best song is You on the Run off of Directions to See a Ghost but Passover is definitely their best album. IMO they suffered as they went away from the BRMC/Brian Jonestown Massacre sound and towards the Caribou hippy freak out stage kind of thing.

The second time I saw them and The Melvins are the too loudest concerts I’ve ever been to. With The Melvins it’s kind of their thing so you were warned. Not so much with The Black Angels. But it was way too much. The Warlocks opened for them and kind of wiped the stage with them. But I’ve hear the Warlocks is one of those where the quality of the show is directly related to the strength of their current bag of heroin.
