What music have you been listening to lately?

Lately it has been more Dio Rainbow. But I do love the JLT vintage as well.

Let’s jump 70 years forward from my last post about Blind Willie Johnson. Stone Temple Pilots, 2001. When Scott Weiland was on, he was ON. It’s weird to think he has already been gone for 10 years. For the sake of his family I wish he would have stopped touring and gotten the help he needed.

They are both great in very different ways, for sure.
I saw them in 1982 with JLT on vocals….a little up and coming band called Iron Maiden were the openers…

Good tune… But Big Brown Beaver is next level!

I was just listening to some Levon Helm Poor old dirt farmer.

The Band was maybe the best American sounding group along with CCR. It is odd that 4 of the Band members were from Canada and one of them was from Turkey Scratch Arkansas. Anyone that listened knew the driving force of the Band was Levon Helm but Robbie Robertson is the one that made a fortune from the publishing royalties. The other members struggled to get by. Helm was playing barn concerts to pay for cancer treatments. Richard and Rick both committed suicide while Garth had to sell his gear to pay bills. Robertson lived a lavish life in Malibu. The songs Robbie wrote were great but the whole Band should have shared some of those royalties. One of my favorites but what a tragedy.

I listen to a lot of music because I restore a lot of old stereo gear. The James Gang and Black Oak Arkansas was my first concert at 11 years old. This tune by Joe Walsh and the James Gang remains one of the best. https://youtu.be/fy1iL01NjZo

Man a lot of bands on that list I’ve seen recently. Viagra Boys (one of my current faves as well), Amyl & the Sniffers, LCD (X2), Khruangbin, Wet Leg… and QOTSA remains on my bucket list, somehow I always miss them when they’re nearby. I’ve seen all the spin-offs like Them Crooked Vultures and Eagles and Death Metal, but never Queens.

Queen’s of the Stone Age debut record was the soundtrack for an epic road trip with then girlfriend from SF to Joshua Tree back around 2002 or so.

Just went and saw Amyl at Royal Oak music theater a couple weeks ago…they are soooo ■■■■■■■ good live, and she is a straight up punk/rock machine, the real deal. I’ve see Queens alot (and Clutch)…am actually going to see them here in a few weeks in Madison, WI for a make up show they’re doing from when Josh had to bow out and cancel their last tour, that’s gonna be a great time, and Madison is always a blast. Havent seen Viagra Boys yet, def on my list someday though.

Yeah Amyl’s a star for sure. I knew the first time I saw her they’d be big, and like a lot of the best bands have to be seen live to get the full picture. Actually going to see Clutch in August (not my first time to see them), but I’m most interested in one of the openers, Inspector Cluzo. Saw them years ago at SXSW at a mostly empty bar and they crushed it.

Do you remember Jordy that four year old French rapper from the early nineties? Amyl voice reminds me of his on some of there songs. A fair amount actually. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course.

I understand that’s a completely out there reference but that’s how my brain works I suppose. :man_shrugging:

In general I find that a lot of great live bands are great depending on when you see them. I think many times their living on the edge and substance abuse is an issue. Ween was famously this way. I know multiple people, including wifey, that has seem them many many times and the general consensus is that Ween shows are amongst the best and worst they’ve ever seen depending on how heavily the Bros. (Dean in particular) had been using.

telling you now Barney the Purple dinosaur used to make me want to end myself !!! Ffffffak
