What would you do in this scenario?

I’d take Femi or JTT. Either adds talent we don’t currently have.

I think we’re talking about two totally different approaches here.

With JTT you’re in all likelihood getting one of the better versions of Josh Paschal in the universe of possible Paschal outcomes coming out of school. On one hand that was at one point this brain trusts vision for the Edge position. On the other hand Brad has, potentially outside of Jack, typically hunted stars in round 1.

With Femi it’s more like an Ansah type of traits projection, although the traits are a tad less freaky and Femi wasn’t born in the Victorian era. But we probably feel pretty confident in our ability to deal with converts. Barnes was basically the inverse of Femi position switch wise and we navigated that well despite that being the more tricky way to convert IMO. And Femi seems to be natural at the dirty work kind of stuff you’d be worried about when sliding a guy down to having his hand in the dirt.

I’m fine with either. While I appreciate the conversation starter by @thats2 I find it quite unlikely the first round goes like this. Given the WR market appreciation and the Rb resurgence I find a two skill position top 28 (excluding TEs) rather unlikely.

I think our FO realizes where his range should be. They may really like him, but it doesn’t guarantee they’ll reach if they believe they can get him later. They really liked Branch too, and ARSB. With those outlier-short arms and average-below average athleticism on tape, I would be shocked if he went in the 1st.

Yeah, JTT vs. Femi is your classic floor vs. ceiling argument, supplemented by a discussion on which role we’ll value more highly.

I also doubt it plays out this way, but it is certainly within the range of outcomes based on needs and the strength of the class.

I would be happy with either JTT or FEMI in this situation, like you said both have their value

If that plays out, maybe I’d just draft Josiah Stewart. Think he’d be perfect opposite of Hutch

I think we’ll like him for sure, but would hope to get him later (not unlike Sawyer, though I think Stewart goes earlier).

Yeah I don’t know what round he’s projected for, but he’s consistently out performed his recruitment activity every year. Doesn’t have the perfect height

That’s the issue, he’s be a SAM for us, so the question becomes how high would we take a SAM? We just re-signed Barnes so it seems like a lesser need.

Your comps are sometimes so very off base according to my own thinking that I can’t even comprehend how you could land where you did.

JTT has no place being compared to Paschal. Sawyer, sure. JTT? Don’t you think Charles Harris or even Julian Okwara’s best version would be the better comp?

The biggest difference between these 2 is One ready to step in and produce right away the other one you draft knowing it’s going to take awhile before he does.

JTT is a big, strong edge. The comp isn’t so much about specific traits as it is about role he’d be playing for us. He plays a MUCH more physical brand of game than Harris or Okwara. He’s one of the best short yardage defensive ends I’ve ever evaluated.

That is another difference for sure (though for me that comes under the floor vs. ceiling argument - the ceiling guys always need more development). As you know I think JTT is probably the most ready edge to step in and play right away.

But sometimes that’s not the best route to take. Everyone drafted before Maxx Crosby was more ready to play right away too.

I think Golden will be selected before our pick, Kentucky CB Hairston along with WRs Burden and Egbuka, S Emmanwori and Starks, RB Hampton, I think are likely to go before our pick as well.

Landon Jackson I Like his size an speed an motor that doesn’t stop.

I wouldn’t mind come right back rd 2 with Kyle Kennard When you want to play like 5 man front . Now your set for years at edge an cheap after you sign Hutch. DL an OL will be solid except for edge start of camp. After rd two look for S an CB an just improved depth. Maddox has played safety as a pro also that improves are depth.

No, he’s a DE. Under recruited because of length and ended up at Coastal Carolina because he’s a “SAM”. Then dominated there as a DE. Transferred to UM and dominated there as a DE. Now the NFL is going to undervalue him because he’s a “SAM”. Nope he’s a DE that plays above the box he’s been placed in by evaluators due to not meeting the height requirements. That’s the point I’m trying to make Thats2

When people compare JTT to Pascal I kinda laugh and think well they haven’t did much homework and going by size only or something because these 2 are so diferant

Yeah Paschal couldn’t sniff JTT’s jock strap

Right, but:

So the Lions themselves have told him we see him as a SAM. From the horse’s mouth.
