I figured I’d ask this question here as opposed to the Valenti thread.
Most of us realize drafting a QB this season in the 1st round doesn’t make sense, but when would it?
We never really thought about Stafford’s replacement until he wanted out and then we got Goff in return. When should the organization start planning for life beyond Goff or is that still at least 3 years out?
you don’t use a “high-pick” on a QB until/unless it is noticeably clear it’s time to replace Goff , we can get a back-up in various ways, again , I wouldn’t burn a high pick on one, when our Defense is screaming for help.
At a minimum, it’s the last year of this contract.
I suspect longer, as Jared’s style is the type that doesn’t deteriorate much with age. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a 3-year extension or something like that.
You don’t draft a high-pick at QB to sit more than a year, which means you don’t draft him until you expect to move on from Goff very soon. In the meantime, plenty of personnel needs a high pick could help the Lions meet.
Actually the game I think that exposed us the most was the Philly game. It was the game we saw the DTs and ends start their rush and then abort and go for the jump deflection. It was copied. A lot.
