The difference between the two is Cignetti hasn’t talked retirement. Whittingham is a great guy, great leader and really good coach. He’s also a year to year coach at this point in his career. I think he will give Michigan two years min, perhaps 3 years. He will feel he owes them that, but he will be year to year after that. That’s just where he’s at.
So now basketball team can get anyone they want. I doubt some are meeting the rules. I just dont think the rules are the same like it was 5 years ago.

As Ihave said UM plays by their own rules on transfers which goes back to the internal ademics vs athletics we’ve discussed with regards to the highers.

UM requires that any transfer that comes in, for their degree purpose, has to either be a grad transfer, Yaxel or be a sophmore or below so that most of their credits that go to the UM degree come from UM not the other school.
IF the player meets the majority credit coming from UM then the transfer works, Johnson in basketball, cadeau in bball. If not it is difficult to get the transfer approval.
UM arrogance states that most of the credits for the degree be earned at UM not the other school or it cheapens the UM degree.
Yes, it is BS, yes it is arrogance. Yet, it, as of last year, was still what was needed.
That is not an NCAA rule or requirement, it is UM.

They did take 17, most of them were grad transfers from places like Columbia, UMASS, etc. Not exactly the types that would move the needle at all. More or less types that could get accepted to the school and be bodies for practice
