Brunell: Jared Goff's Arm Talent 'Best I've Ever Been Around'

I feel the better way to do this, rather than isolate one throw is to watch highlights, where you can watch Goff and Stafford sling throw after throw. When you do this you will CLEARLY see that over a high volume of throws, Stafford ABSOLUTELY holds the ball higher when he is in his drop way more consistently. If Stafford is setting up and throwing deep down the field, he does wind up more than he does on a 7 yard slant. But when you watch 50 throws of each guy, if you want to tell me that Goff is in the same league release wise, well sorry but they are not.

I never use the term “bullied.” I also never said Goff has a quote “slow” release. I said he has a “wind up” release, which he totally does. Any site that says Goff has the third fastest release in the NFL is smoking crack and that site would need to provide their evaluation process if I’m to even begin to give it credence. It’s just so obvious when you watch the tape. He’s not “slow” but he is definitely not top 3 level at that particular trait. No way, ho how.

You guys are seriously funny. I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me, so give me that same respect. But nope, I am wrong. I’m terrible. Bad poster. No one takes you seriously. Use old posts out of context. I’m the worst. Even tho a lot is subjective. Pick and choose my words. BUT only if it pertains to Jared Goff.

Do you guys even watch him play or do you just watch highlights, and read stats?

If anyone wants to seriously talk about Jared Goff, I have no problem talking about the guy all day long if you guys want to be reasonable about it. And respect opinions. If I say Goff has average arm strength, and you say he has above average arm strength, thats cool…lol. So ridiculous.

Believe me when I say even with all the chaos, I don’t care. I’m just pointing it out.

What’s the problem with me being honest? Not sure I understand me being quoted on that. Being being honest just means I’m giving an honest opinion. I would be lying if I said Goff was a gunslinger, had a quick release, had a cannon for an arm, or was a fast runner. On the flip side, I’d be lying if I said he had a weak arm, or he can’t make all the throws.

FYI, I loved the Jack Campbell pick since minute 1. Go ahead… keep bashing me.

Fun stuff

Hey @CatholicNinja we may not agree on everything that’s fine. I’ve heard you hyping up Sewell many times so clearly we agree on that. Plus I’m a huge fan of ninjas. :joy:

You guys want chaos? I’ll give you guys chaos right now.

Here are the truths whether any of you want to lie to yourselves or not.

Jared Goff is turnover prone. He’s lead all QB’s since 2017 in TO’s. Not just with INT’s, but also fumbles. He fumbles the ball too much. In saying this, he’s had multiple games, with multiple terrible INT, pick 6’s, and fumbles last season.

Goff struggles when he has pressure.

Goff is a mid-range, safe passer.

Goff throws way too many wobblers.

Goff lost the game against Dallas with two terrible INT with one being in 2min. He would have had 3 int’s if Parsons wasn’t off-sides. He throw a horrible pass to Mitchell, and lost the game.

Goff gets a lot of his stats from the players. They make great catch and have great YAC.

Goff threw the ball away twice, and even more times on 4th down.

Goff is very inconsistent.

Goff hangs on to the ball too long.

Goff struggles when his first read isn’t there.

Goff throws late.

Goff throws inaccurate. Usually short, or behind. With receivers bailing him out.

Goff ignores wide open players.

Goff has average arm strength at best. Seen many times.

Goff is not strong, or big.

Goff cannot run.

Goff is no where near worth 200+mil. With a no trade clause.

Goff is a top 12 QB at best.

And there you have it. None of things things I said should be a problem, but let the chaos begin!

“hate the player, not the game (poster)”. Or hate me for being HONEST. It’s cool.

I agree. I kept saying I wasn’t bashing the guy. I think average arm strength is great. Which means it’s as good as any QB. I think being able to make all the throws is great.

Honestly, I hope you guys can take a joke. Cuz I think this is all kinda funny. If I knew you guys personally, no matter how much flack I get I’d still buy you all a beer.

Ok, not super clear as you were replying to my post - then talking about Ninja - then saying “you” regarding saying he has a slow release. All good.

One of the most underrated movies of all time.

He does have a slow release. He’s one of the slowest throwers. Big wind-up. So does Hendon Hooker.

Heck yea…:joy::joy: @socko

I do want to respond to my quotes even though they were taken out of context.

Just like anyone else, I get passionate. Especially watching this team be the worst for decades. So, that’s added passion.

I already reminded everyone about my support/prediction for RB, LB, and TE. That doesn’t always mean that’s what I want. It was just what I believed would be a good draft.

I wanted Bijan. I had moments were I either didn’t like the Gibbs pick, or wasn’t sure. A lot of it comes from being burned by Jahvid Best, and Ameer Abdullah. And because I’m a fan of power backs. Not to mention I was far from the only one that wasn’t sure about Gibbs. However, Gibbs is fantastic, and runs with power, and toughness. I ate my crow.

I loved the Jack Campbell pick from the start.

I didn’t like the LaPorta pick, but as I said before I knew TE was in play. But ever since Pettigrew, and Ebron, I never wanted a TE drafted high ever again. But, LaPorta is the man.

I loved Branch, but didn’t like the pick. I’ll quote Dan Campbell as to why “we have CJGJ, but Branch is a good player”. I wanted a DT high (like I do every year). Now Branch is my favorite player, and I recently bought his black jersey.

See, I am ‘honest’. :innocent:

I was just showing where they start the clock for calculating release time, since you said you didn’t know. And going back to my comment about every QB seeming to pat the ball or squeeze it right before a throw, here is Aaron Rodgers doing it. He is holding the ball with one hand. But when its time to throw, he quickly pats the ball with the off hand and then fires. QBs will pat the ball while waiting for a route to break open or other reasons. This one was like a “rushed” pat. Like “let me get this pat out of the way as quick as I can so I can throw the ball!” He pats the ball and quickly fires.

Here is Mike Vick doing it. He is escaping a sack and running to his left with the ball in one hand (like he often did). But when he decided to dump off a short pass, he went out of his way to get his off hand to tap the ball to start his throwing motion.

interestingly, the quick release stats are available for college quarterbacks, and hooker had the second fastest release of all the prospects that year.

My bad. I used the wrong language. I mean that he gets rid of the ball quickly (due to a mastery of his reads and high-level ability to read defenses), not that his throwing motion is especially fast.

I wouldn’t say that he has a “slow” release, but I wouldn’t call it quick either.

Kinda funky, that it’s not available.
Goff’s throwing motion is most comparable to Brady’s, IMO, but I found an old article that shows Brady has having an even quicker release than Rodgers, which makes no sense to me.
