Chark visiting Carolina tommorow

I doubt Chark signs for less than he took last year.

Chark added a lot to the offense in the last 6 games when he was finally healthy and in synch with goff. That offense–and Swift’s explosiveness is a big part of that offense–was averaging over 30 per game with Chark contributing a number of explosive plays.

Considering what the offense looked like when the injury bug hit the wr corps makes bringing Chark back a priority for me.

Assumption is the mother of all f-ck ups and your assuming is a little off, there nothing similar between swift and Jamo. The thing that’s makes me want Chark I notice how long it takes for our QB to get on the same page with his WRs. And I’m not looking to waste 1/2 a season on a new guy. And Jamo has a long way to go mentally. Half the players in the NFL have injury history it’s part of the game so you can use that comparison with many players. So you either miss the part on the chemistry or are just over looking it. But it’s right there

I’ve seen this mentioned, but where has it come from?

That you keep repeating this doesn’t make it true.

It’s kind of a thought that developed from a few things. He didn’t see much time even after he was healthy and we were in a late season playoff run. He looked like he didn’t understand the routes or got knocked of his routes really easy. Super fast but not real precise

Look at the catch/target percentage with Goff and ARSB. Amon is a route technician. He’s where he’s supposed to be every time. And Goff throws it right there. The one game they really seemed to be trying to give Williams more snaps the passes got turfed and Goff looked uncharacteristically irritated

With Both Chark and Jamo dealing with injuries last year I would like to have them both on the team. Hopefully one of them will always be able to play each week and we have a guy that take the top off a defense. Chark was a big part of the offense in the second half of the season and really seemed to like playing in Detroit.

Jamo had 79 catches in his last season at Alabama. People seem to think he just runs go routes. He ran a complete route tree and caught a lot of short/mid range passes.

He also had ONLY 1 year of college production. If you’re making a recipe for a bust, that is a good start.

I have high hopes for the kid, but he has a loooooooong way to go before I’m comfortable looking at him as a #1 guy. Adding some good muscle to his frame would be a good start.

Yes because they don’t want to wait 8 games for another WR and Jamo isn’t ready. He is very important for this team to get a good start. That offense was clicking pretty good at the end.

DJ Chark

5 seasons played in 54/81 games (66%)

Totals 177 catches 2,544 yards 18 TDs

Season averages 35 catches 510 yards 3.6 TDs

Per game averages 3.3 catches 47.1 yards 0.33 TDs

D’Andre Swift

3 seasons played in 40/50 games (80%)

Totals 520 touches 2,878 yards 25TDs

Per game averages 12 touches 72 yards 0.62 TDs

Swifts per game averages are as good as it gets for a back who only gets 12 touches a game.

Charks per game averages are as average as it gets for a WR.

What exactly am I wrong about in that regard? It is not a arguable thing. These numbers are straight facts. Chark is also made of glass in comparison to Swift. Yet Chark is well loved and Swift is one of the more criticized Lion players.

It’s all right there…one guy is obviously much more productive than the other. It’s not me telling myself anything. It’s you and everyone else denying the truth.

Listen to yourself…you are even saying he’s the most pivotal and critical on the offense. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

We had a top 5 offense before he ever even played last year. He just started getting catches that others were getting when he showed back up.

You said when healthy. So let’s look at the period when Chark was fult healthy and acclimated here in Detroit. It was basically the last six games. He produced at just shy of an 1,100 yard rate. Similar to his 2019 Jax production. He’s absolutely capable of #2WR production when healthy. He has shown that in his career.

Resigning Chark to another 1 year contract could put us in bean heaven next year, with him, Okudah, Swift, Moseley, Jonah and more in demand. It’s all about the beans, isn’t it?

So you focus on Chark at his absolute best vs the entirety of his career…

If this isn’t moving the needle to fit your narrative I don’t know what is.

I’ll play just for fun…so a total of 21 of his 81 career possible games, he has been the player you just described. Roughly 21% of the time he’s been in the NFL. Or we can just count the games he’s played…(not the 33% that he’s missed) 21 of the 54 games he’s played, he’s the player you described. That’s less than 40%.

Let’s just talk about what he did last season. Missed 6 of 17 games (matches his career marks of ~30%). Played really well in 6 of the games he did play (again, pretty much matches his career marks). And was sub par in his other 5 games…all which accumulated to 30 catches, 502 yards, and 3 TDs. Statistics that literally mirror his career averages per season.

Chark showed exactly what kind of player he is last season. I mean EXACTLY. But apparently, the only thing that matters is his peak 6 game stretch. I mean you have to focus on that, otherwise you have no argument to make.

He signed a 1 year prove it deal. And the season that followed was who he’s always been. That’s just the simple truth whether you choose to believe it or not. It’s not how I’m spinning it…

Oh that must be why swift was RB2 for the second half of the season. And why if we needed a 4th down or 1 yard conversion we put Jamal in over him.

Yet if we needed a big play we went to chark.

This doesn’t have to be one or the other. Swift is injury riddled and likely gone after this season is up if not before. Nobody wants him gone. We don’t want to pay him for a second contract.

Been there, done that in terms of this debate. Not really interested in rehashing it.

Chark is IMO a much better player than you give him credit for. He’s not a number 1 and he admittedly fills a specific role. But given the scarcity of his profile, how he played to end the year and the effect his play had on JG I think he’s worth bringing back at the right price. I’ll trust Brad on what that price is. Though I still expect CAR to outbid us.

Dude no one said that ,just that he is important to the start of the season and the offense looked much better at the end with him. If you can’t see the difference it goes back to you missing things.

RBs with Swift’s profile are plentiful. 6’4" low 4.3 forty X WRs are quite rare.

Plentiful and cheaper too. There’s a reason desean jackson spent half his life in the league as a burner. Even if he’s not catching the ball or being targeted often he’s still having a major impact on the game.

It’s a nuanced thing that I guess some people will never understand. And it’s not something that shows up in the stats.
